Ron Wood - I've Got My Own Album to Do

Fantastic first solo effort by my favorite man, Ronnie Wood. Mick, Keef, half of the Faces and George Harrison all show up. A boozy good time!!

I'm not a huge fan of Def Leppard's music (although I do think they are really nice guys). However the one thing I have always known is especially Phil Collen and Joe Elliot's love of the 70's glam rock. This CD is all covers of songs that influenced the guys over the years. 70's British rock is well represented here. I like this CD start to finish (which is a rare thing for me. WIth that being said my fav tracks on this CD are: ~20th Century Boy ~Waterloo Sunset (one of the best songs ever written) ~Hanging on the Telephone ~Street Life (one of my favorite songs ever) ~Little Bit of Love ~Stay With Me (this is my favorite song of all time. No version will ever compare to the original by the Faces. However the boys do a really good job of it with Phil Collen on lead vocals. He does a great job). Being a fan of all of the music that influenced these guys myself I found something really interesting. Many of the songs they cover here are on the soundtrack for the amazing British tv show, Life on Mars.

Get this CD and see why (and also wonder why they are not global superstars). After waiting for 7 years I finally got to see them recently at Fat City in San Francisco and all I can say is they did not disappoint. Ginger (singer) is the best songwriter on the planet. If you don't know the Wildhearts, boy are you missing out!

My fav. band in the entire world, the WIldhearts also had their debut CD in the 90's. They are also British like the Manic Street Preachers. Clearly Britain was the place to be in the 90's (well to me I would always want to be there). Anyway, this review is all about this great debut CD! They were ironic, witty, angry and sexy. Slash and Burn is my fav. song on the CD (I also adore the video....all black hair, eyeliner, leopard junkie chic).

  • Their first CD! While it is all cover tunes you can hear their passion, energy and fire! I adore this CD! I especially love their version of Route 66.

I like what I've heard a lot so far (the CD drops May 6th in the US). If you are looking for the Arctic Monkeys sound, you are not going to find it here. It sounds to me like glam area Bowie with some spaghetti western type guitars! . That is not a bad thing. While that might sound like an odd combination it really is the best I can do to describe this. Needless to say I have already pre-ordered.

Seriously, you have to hear how great these guys were to believe it. To me the definition of a great "garage" band is that when you hear their music it is timeless. It could have come out 30 years ago or last week. The Prisoners are that kind of band! I believe they had more popularity in their native UK than they did in America, which is a shame! Get this CD and impress all your hipster friends!

It seems people either love or hate the Gallagher brothers! Count me in the love faction! Sure they fight (what siblings don't?) and sure they "borrow from the Beatles" (why not "borrow" from one of the best I say, others who are more popular have done a lot worse). However, what the haters loose site of is that Oasis is one of the best if not the best Britpop band to come along in the past 20 years. OK, now that we have my Gallagher brother defense out of the way, I can tell you why you need this awesome DVD (which I have already pre-ordered and so should you). It shows a candid look at life on the road (and shows a more balanced side of the brothers from what I have heard) as well as cumulating in their welcome home gig in Manchester! This is a must have! Oh yea, the title track of this DVD (which is included with the DVD) is smokin' (I've heard it many times already on the Underground Garage)!

  • I so love this video. Sure to cheer up the grumpiest day! One of my fav. all time songs. Bobby Gillespie, mmmmmmmmmmmm delicious!

All the early years Stones stuff (which is my fav. along with the fantastic Jimmy Miller era stuff). All their hits, etc. which everyone has heard and discussed many times over (Last Time, Paint it Black, etc). My most favorite song (if I had to choose) on this is Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man. If I was in a band I would do a cover of that song. It's just fun and not everyone has heard of it! I also love Jiving Sister Fanny. Some people describe it as Southern Boogie, and I just don't see that. To me it sounds like a Faces song done by the Rolling Stones (and I'm a huge Faces fanatic), which is why I love it. If you are a Stones fan this is a must have. All their great early stuff in a convenient 3 CD package! What's not to love?!

And, let's face it, Bobby Gillespie is smokin' hot! Also, how can you not help but love a man who allegedly accused Coldplay of being boring. This DVD is not out until Oct. 9. That doesn't mean you can't pre-order!! I've already ordered mine, how about you?
