On Your Sleeve - Jesse Malin

On Your Sleeve - Jesse Malin

This CD is Jesse Malin (amazing solo artist and former singer of D Generation) having a great time covering songs of artists that have influenced him. His influences are also many of mine (the Ramones, Rolling Stoes, Clash, Lou Reed) to name a few! I especially love his version of Walk on the Wild Side.

A new set of four wood acoustic guitars from Gretsch. The Americana series. Each guitar features a 24" scale steel reinforced neck; real wood construction has a fabulous retro image and comes in an equally cool box. Even if you don't play, they look awfully cool mounted on the wall, or just hanging in the corner. $150.00 a piece.

  • It's been a few years since this album and that's probably why I've mostly forgot about it. However, when I stumbled onto it on Amazon, I remembered how much I enjoyed it. Expect delightful melancholy.

Elliott Smith writes the most beautiful, sad, broken songs. With slightly better production than his debut, Roman Candle, the self-titled album has such amazing, strong songwriting, that it's able to overcome the short-comings of the recording set up. Great album that started putting Elliott Smith on the indie map.

  • My mom bought this for me one year for one of my birthday presents and I thought I was so cool. "Hands" was obviously my favorite song on the CD.

  • Her songs are beautiful and her lyrics are progressively transforming. There's really not much more to say about that besides that this is an album everyone should have in their collection.

This is great music to listen to while studying, reading, drawing, anything! Upon hearing M83's track "We Own The Sky," I wasn't sure whether or not I liked it. After a few days, I had it on repeat while I was thinking of it's meaning. I think M83 introduced a new form of experimental indie to all it's listeners. You will not be disappointed by them!

After waiting for 7 years I finally got to see them recently at Fat City in San Francisco and all I can say is they did not disappoint. Ginger (singer) is the best songwriter on the planet. Action Coming Down is my fav track on this 4 song EP (although all rip it up). They also do a mean version of Pirate Love that is as good (yes I did say as good) as the Johnny Thunders version. They are based out of LA. If you think these guys sound good on record you should see them live. I've seen them at my fav. dive bar, Thee Parkside as well as opening for Social Distortion. They put 110% energy into their shows no matter how large or small! Oh, they are super nice guys too! What more do you want?! Get the EP already!

I'm not sure what exactly happened. I do know they were managed by Sharon Osbourne at one point in time and were supposed to come out with a full length album, although I don't think it ever reached the light of day! if you love music in the style of Johnny Thunders, Izzy Stradlin', Hanoi Rocks, the Ramones, etc. you will adore these guys. The thing that will really knock you out once you hear how amazing they were is that the youngest member of the band at the time this was recorded was like 16. Hard to believe!

  • Great band from LA that were way ahead of their time. Great garage rock/soul with a horn section. Something somewhat unheard of in 1965. The entire CD is fantastic. My favorite song is Jump, Jive And Harmonize!

I was perusing Etsy when I came across a very clever innovation, indeed. It seems that some clever fellow from Liverpool has went about converting IKEA clocks into "attractive, portable 9 volt. battery practice amp/ headphone amps". And attractive they are, indeed! So, if you need something small enough to tuck in your bag or pocket so you can practice your electric guitar (or other instrument) on the road- which you might be quite tempted to do, literally, as this design is just so cute you'll want to show it off- then perhaps Clockamp is your answer.

I suppose that if you don't listen to much radio, stay away from friends who know about music and shield yourself from culture in your spider hole, you probably wont know about Federico Aubele. However, if you do keep your ears open, you probably heard his sultry sounds resonate in your ear and soul. My first experience with Federico was when a friend played a track. "This sounds good" I thought. Then I heard more on NPR. "Wow, his other stuff is great!" So, now I'm hooked. You can be too. Give it a spin / click.

This CD by my beloved Hollywood Vampires however is! I love this CD so much I have burned through a few copies of it. While not as prolific as Appetite for Destruction, it has that Hollywood streetwise sensibility. It was definitely more dangerous and sleazy that other bands of the LA scene of the time (of course with the exception of GnR). The entire CD shreds. My fav. tracks include Slap in the Face, Rip and Tear and Never Enough.

You can play solo, or play along to preloaded songs like "Are you gonna be my girl?", "Let it Be" and more, or you can plug in your iPod or your computer and play along to those songs. So, you can stop looking like idiots strumming along to 'Joy Division' and start looking like, well, still idiots, but at least there is room for actual talent here.

Clearly Britain was the place to be in the 90's (well to me I would always want to be there). Anyway, this review is all about this great debut CD! They were ironic, witty, angry and sexy. Slash and Burn is my fav. song on the CD (I also adore the video....all black hair, eyeliner, leopard junkie chic).
