Ruben Toledo History of Fashion Tote Bag
I love trolling around the Met site for unique gifts. Here is an interesting one for the fashionista on your holiday shopping list.... from the site: Cuban-born artist and fashion illustrator Ruben Toledo was inspired by objects in the Museum’s Costume Institute to create the witty illustrations on this shiny vinyl tote bag. The history of fashion parades around the border, and iconic styles such as Dior’s New Look and the little black dress are featured in the center. Toledo (born in Havana, 1961) is a renowned sculptor, illustrator, fashion chronicler, and critic. His illustrations have appeared in top fashion magazines and journals around the world, including the New Yorker, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Town & Country, Paper, Visionaire, Interview, and the New York Times. His work has been exhibited in The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the textile museum at the Louvre, and his collaboration with his fashion-designer wife, Isabel Toledo, was the subject of both a book and a museum exhibition titled “Toledo/Toledo: A Marriage of Art and Fashion” at The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. I LOVE this company. So they are by far the best cases I have seen for the price. The construction is so thorough - with heat-dissipating inner lining, a memory foam shell, etcetera. AND if yours gets old or dirty you can trade it... I LOVE this company. So they are by far the best cases I have seen for the price. Making it way cheaper than any of those other crappy companies. I feel like with most companies you either get good design, or good protection, but with Isis you get both.

Several years ago my brother Benjammin' Master Tye Dye Artist (http://www.benjamminkids.com, http://www.dharmatrading.com/autogen/featuredartists/html/52/, http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=147368199) made this pair of cord jeans. It took him over 12 hours to dye the pants. Unfortunately, the soda ash used to fix the dye reacted with the metal zipper and other parts and ate through the cord, rendering the pants unwearable. I've rescued one leg to make this shoulder bag. The front features a grinning skull. Thanatos (death in Greek) meets us all in the end. Under the flap, I've placed the original cargo pocket from the pants. The bag is lined in black and features an inside zip pocket with a green zipper. Black web handle. Bag measures 7" wide x 10.5" high x just under 3" acroos the base.

If I had all the money in the world, I would hire her to be my personal style consultant all the time.
