Boys and Girls in America

Boys and Girls in America

indie rock without being too indie. lots of "theBoss" similarites, but in a good/fun Rosalita type-way. great guitars and organ/piano. might take a minute to get used to lead singer Craig's vox... but well worth it

  • Lily Allen is amazing.

  • It's their first studio album and after 4 more that are mostly spectacular, Castaways and Cutouts remains my favorite. To me it's their purest "indie rock sound." You know, back when indie rock use to actually be indie rock.

As I got older, the R.E.M. that was blaring in my ears were songs like Losing My Religion (which I still don't like). Now that I'm older I can revisit this album and truly appreciate it for songs like: Sweetness Follows Star Me Kitten Try Not to Breathe I do like Everybody Hurts but unfortunately its beaten over our heads, ears, and eyes. Thank MTV. Great album all around.

It's hard rock with a taste for classic pop hooks, and these boys can rock like the best of them. They've been comfortably residing in the underground for over 15 years, content to be Glasgow's offical house band, but they're beginning to make waves in the mainstream.

Her he eschews more mainstream pop music to explore a slightly darker side. Employing some really great comrades in legendary African drummer Tony Allen, ex-Clash bassist Paul Simonon, and the Verve's guitarist Simon Tong. Given the rhythm section, there definitely could have been stronger African influences, but it's still a really interesting album, with some great songs on it. And bully to him for getting Paul Simonon to come out of retirement!

They have a very deep bluesy sound, but they are their own voice. You can hear their influence come through them in the music, but they make them their own. Hendrix, the Doors, Led Zepplin all there, but Rabid Roy has their own way of bringing them to life. They have a good selection of their own originals as well and play them. I can sit there and close my eyes and be taken to another time listening to them. They host an open mic session twice a month at Bar 46 and it shoud not be missed. Not only do they get up and jam, but other join them or play and it is just a really great night for those who love just good ole fashioned rock and roll. Every so often we are alos treated to Joe hitting the accoustic night and that, well that is simply a sight to be heard to be believed. Trevor and Eric are simply amazing and as Rabid Roy, they are a trio to be reckoned with...get these guys out there in the mainstream so they can be appreciated by more then just us!

Tony Lucca is one of the best-kept secrets in music/songwriting. This guy, who appeared on the New Mickey Mouse Club along side Britney, Christina, Justin and the like, had the opportunity for superstardom like those guys and gals--so I'm told--but he passed it up because he wanted to stay true to himself and his own unique musical style. The result is one of the most talented 'undiscovered' musical artists you'll ever listen to. I must admit, I do like his first few 'indie' releases better than his first "signed" deal--Shotgun--but his latest recording--Canyon Songs--is a really great disc. Tony's music contains a little bit of everything... rock, blues, folk, etc.
