It bears the Kalk Porcelain Factory hallmark in blue over-glaze featuring crossed arrows pointed downwar... This Lovely hand painted Porcelain Silent Butler with Gold Gilt. Was made by Kalk Porcelain Factory in Thuringia, Germany. It bears the Kalk Porcelain Factory hallmark in blue over-glaze featuring crossed arrows pointed downward (numbers below the mark were used by the factory). This mark dates to circa 1900, and some published sources indicate that the mark was only used up through the 1920s. This lovely piece has the Blue Crossed Arrows pointing downward and with the number S8653. This Box design is very rare and have not been able to locate one. The pieces I have located is in the round design and range in price from $60.00 - $275.00 Depending on its condition. This piece is in perfect condition with nicks or or cracks. Has a nice sturdy tight handle and is just Gorgeous. These Silent Butlers was used when dinner party's was thrown. The men would use them while smoking their Cigars to place the ash inside. They were also used to sweep the Crumbs off the dinning room table as well.

Liberated from an art book printed on high quality paper in 1939, this print is ready to be matted and framed. The paper (once an off white) now shows some warmth through tanning. Also, some lines imprinted from the actual image, which is printed on a separate piece of semi-gloss paper, that is glued to the heavier stock back. The "white" space that surrounds the image makes matting much easier and more flexible.
