  • this may be my favorite idea for an ice tray - no more watered down iced coffee when you freeze coffee into bean shaped ice cubes for your drink. Cute and functional.

Well they just introduced canned coffee drinks to the states! I just noticed them in a drugstore (seriously, I have a problem) and had to try some. There are 3 variations: Caffé - Black espresso with sugar. That's it! It's the only black coffee in a can available as far as I know. The coffee is good and sweetened just the right amount, totaling 50 calories. But purists will prefer their freshly brewed. Cappuccino - I know, I know, you can't bottle a cappuccino. Well the name's a little misleading. It's coffee, milk, sugar and coca. Not bad - like the Latte version, the coffee is the same, but the milk is skim (so a little less thick). A touch of cocoa but it's not Godiva. Still, quite good and at 100 calories probably my fav. Latte Macchiato - More milk, less coffee, and some sugar. 130 calories in a can ('cause of regular milk, not skim). I tried this, it's very good! Like Starbucks' old Iced Coffee in a can, but with a bit more body. P.S. Visit their site at: illyissimo.com/us for some cool drink recipes, pics and a pretty awesome background track I love but I will hate after 5 minutes of straight listening (TURN OFF your speakers at work!)

Appropriately they go there with a bang. Packaged in a cool looking box with starbucks cup markings, VIA comes in convenient single server packets - just tear, pour and add water. I've tried both flavors (Columbian and Italian) and like them both. Colombian is a little more rounded and mellow, while Italian has a little more kick to it. They definitely taste better than any other instant coffee I've tried, with more body and edges. It's the best instant coffee available. But it's NOT a freshly ground and brewed cup. However, they're perfect when on the run, traveling or to make a quick iced coffee - just use 2 packets and ice cubes. Only con is the price - $9.95 for 12 packets, which is pretty high for instant. Not to mention they are only avaialble at the Starbucks online store, so you have to add in shipping.

They don't seem to sell them in every Starbucks outlet, but I kinda like these iced coffees in a can. Made with a nice Italian Roast, it's got just the right amount of body and complexity to give a good flavor, while the water and a hint of sugar tones it down a bit for easy sipping (or gulping, if that's your thing.) Only 100 calories if you're watching them. It's a nice, relaxing drink with just the right amount of caffeine, and way less sugar than the Frapuccinos. It can't match real, freshly brewed iced coffee, but it's a good substitute. Also available in a 'Light' version made with Splenda.

Wait, you say, the MISTER? Yes, the mister. Fill with dry Vermouth, spray across the surface of the gin (or vodka, if you must) and serve. With a twist of lemon, please. (Also, you DO know not to shake a martini, don't you? Keep your liquor in the freezer; use the martini shaker to make iced coffee. Trust me.)
