The Rock Warrior's Way: Mental Training for Climbers by Arno Ilgner

The Rock Warrior's Way: Mental Training for Climbers by Arno Ilgner

Putting aside the sort of silly title, this is really an amazing book about getting your head together to climb your best. And we all know that climbing, first and foremost, is a head-game which makes Rock Warrior's Way a must-read. One of the key insights Arno focuses on boils down to the following: stop whining about what you wish you had (ie a better hold or foot, better crimp strength, a longer reach, etc) and just start working w/what you do have. That seems like good advice in general, not just for climbing.

I figured they just had chores to do and they should do them. However, I would end up spending money on them at the store for things they wanted that I didn't necessarily want to buy them. I started out giving them each $2.50/wk. I then assigned a small dollar value to each chore (.5c / day for giving the dogs water; .25c/week for picking up the doggy poo, etc). I do not remind them to do their chores. If they do not do them, I do it and just deduct it off their allowance. They certainly are paying better attention to what they need to do. I have everything listed on a Chore Chart with the value for each thing. If one child does the chore for the other ... I give the other the money for it, as if "paying" them to do it for them. So far it's working. A lot of great advice in the book about respecting your parents too. This was a great read. Kudos to Dr. Leman.

  • This book is insightful, thought provoking- & short! It's embarrassing for me to admit that I'm not a big reader- (the last book I read at my own leisure was "Jurassic Park"), but think this should be required. D'Souza's thinking... This book is insightful, thought provoking- & short! It's embarrassing for me to admit that I'm not a big reader- (the last book I read at my own leisure was "Jurassic Park"), but think this should be required. D'Souza's thinking is powerful & sharp- I wanted to retain every page. It helped me look at history & the world on a whole new level with great depth & fresh perspective that actually makes sense. He writes of current events & international affairs precisely how they are & smoothly paves the way for one to get the big picture. ...A worthwhile read.

Fired up or Burned out leest gemakkelijk, de hoofdstukken zijn kort, maar krachtig.
