Midnight Express (1978)
Billy Hayes (Brad Davis) is caught attempting to smuggle drugs out of Turkey. The Turkish courts decide to make an example of him, sentencing him to more than 30 years in prison. Hayes has two opportunities for release: the appeals made by his lawyer, his family, and the American government, or the "Midnight Express". This movie being based on a true life episode, shows consequences that can occur in other countries when breaking the law. I had seen the movie several years ago and still think it is very good.

Without posing moral judgement, the film highlights the subjectivity and power of conviction as well as its possible profundity and futility. This movie is scarce on dialogue but has one of the sharpest written 15 minute, single shot dialogue scenes I've ever had the pleasure of viewing.

For me, this was the first Cohen Brothers film I saw. In no questionable way, it transformed me into a lifetime fan. And, even though it was made over 20 years ago, it remains one of the funniest films I've ever seen.

TIM robbins is so young and handsome in this GREAT movie. Robbins plays a banker in jail on a murder charge. He believe he was also nominated for an academy award. Extra points for Tim!
