JBL LSR6328Ps
Cheap? No. But I'd take these over any other speakers short of Meyer X-10s. Self-powered (internally bi-amped, actually), so no esoteric speaker cables or racks of amps needed, and they've got enough bass to be used without a sub, although the complementary LSR6312SP fills out the system with even more solid low end. You'll hear detail in your music you didn't know existed. And Zeppelin II still sounds damn good.

I have the first On Stage in my office so I don't have to listen to the tinny so-called "speakers" that are built in to the iMac. Love ya, Apple, but those speakers suck. I have a problem when my headphones can't get loud enough....these definetley do the trick! Not to mention they are cordless which means you can walk all over your house and still listen to music clearly. You can probably walk out... Although they may be small, these speakers give you a full sound. I especially like the fact that there's a remote.

This is the companion subwoofer to the JBL LSR series. The earlier LSR12P sounds slightly better if you can get ahold of one, because it's got a carbon-fiber front baffle.
