Joe Gillis (William Holden), bankrupt screenwriter, hides from car repossessors in the garage of a deserted-looking mansion which proves to be the grotesque home of Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson), retired silent screen star. Joe takes refuge there, with a nominal job of rewriting Norma's hopeless 'comeback' screenplay. Weeks pass; feeling more and more like a kept man, Joe grasps at reality in the form of a clandestine friendship with script reader Betty Schaefer, but it's too late... This movie won 3 Oscars, had another 13 wins an 13 nominations... So who can argue with that? It is a great, great movie (10 stars out of 10)

I'd love to rave about the trill of experiencing the talented and charming Bob Mitchell on piano and organ, and the amazing eclectic line up of wired, and wonderful films, but instead, I want to point out the publication that introduced me to this revival house. The Cinefamily program. It's a compelling collection of film fact, images, and musings on movies on the The Cinefamily schedule. So far comic book artist have been commissioned to create original works for each cover, and tucked inside each program is a beautiful pin-up image that adorns the pull-out calender. Each time the schedule comes out I cant wait to open it up to see what new layout, or imaginative juxtapositions of image is to be seen. As of this writing all of the programs of 08 have been uploaded to the Cinefamily website and can be downloaded as PDFs. But I'm holding on to my printed version. ;)

Directed by Doug Limen, this is the guy that went on to make the Bourne movies, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Jumper. It was written bt John Favreau and, I think it is one of the funnier films of the 90s. Easily quotable for any guy.
