The broad, no-nonsense stripe deftly undercuts the austerity of this authorized reproduction of a double-wide "machine for sitting," aka modern settee, designed in 1923 by Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus. The durable fabric (a Bauhaus must), now reproduced in wool, cotton and viscose, was designed by Gropius’s contemporary Helen Jungnick.
