Beloved - Movie
This story and subsequent movie freaked me out. Maybe I was too young at the time to read the book, but seeing the movie as an adult didn't make this story easier to swallow. The story is about an ex slave haunted by the trauma and terror of her past life. Having been brutalized savagely by her slave masters, she made a desperate choice which resulted in the death of her own children. Now, with a new life and a teen daughter, she is haunted, literally by a spirit that may have something to do with the mysterious young woman that has just entered her family's life.

This is about American history, not just Black history.
