We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank by Modest Mouse
There's a slight shift in Modest Mouse's sound on this album, but that shouldn't be surprising, given the addition of famed Smith's guitarist Johnny Marr. Who know how much the addition shifted the soundscape, but I find this album to be a bit catchier than the previous. Issac Brok's vocal style seems to focus a bit more on the shouty end of the spectrum, on songs like "Dashboard", but personally I like the change. It still sounds like Modest Mouse, just kicked up a notch.

It's their first studio album and after 4 more that are mostly spectacular, Castaways and Cutouts remains my favorite. To me it's their purest "indie rock sound." You know, back when indie rock use to actually be indie rock.

This, the second studio album from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, is without a doubt, their best. So, if you can get into some art punk or garage rock, I think you'll enjoy this 2006 release.

To be honest, I had almost forgotten about Beirut. I'm not really sure how because this was one of my favorite albums of '06 and he is completely amazing. Indie folk, pop lovers will all appreciate this one.

Another fine album by Hot Hot Heat. When I recommended their other album, I mentioned it reminded me of raccoons going through garbage cans. With this album, it's bears. Naughty bears. Chan marshal is one of the few people i'd ever permit to doing cover albums. It's not very surprising, but her unique voice brought a fresh and fun perspective to already awesome songs.

Her songs are beautiful and her lyrics are progressively transforming. There's really not much more to say about that besides that this is an album everyone should have in their collection.

A terrific soundtrack to a great indie movie. This was the first time I ever heard the Shins, and Iron & Wine and it was a it of an awakening.
