Escape Artist: silk necktie
Inspired by the rich lore surrounding the life of Harry Houdini, the Cyberoptix TieLab has designed a line of neckwear around this late-Victorian-era icon. Few know that Houdini began his career working in a necktie factory! A slight departure from the TieLab's usual silkscreened ties, this limited edition series is handcrafted from the most luxurious heavyweight silk, each adorned with a unique, antique skeleton key estimated to be at least 60-150 years old. The key is further restrained by hand-patinated, solid copper and solid brass chain that easily detaches for tying and cleaning.

I bumped into this cute little critter in an antiques store in Vancouver. I thought - no way this is an antique, it's too clever, but it feels like it should be. The Tory cuff is hand cut from a fine piece of ink black leather and top-stitched with contrasting cream thread to add surface interest. Secure the cuff by wrapping it firmly around your wrist with the long leather thong, then tuck the antique skeleton key into the strapping. Here is a seahorse and a filigree or two with brass dangles, but oh is he watching the glass amber colored stone within? I made it to hang on a necklace of brass and pearl beads. The necklace is 17-1/2" long.
