The Prestige (2006)

The Prestige (2006)

From the time they first met as young magicians on the rise, Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) and Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) were competitors. However, their friendly competition evolves into a bitter rivalry making them fierce enemies-for-life and consequently jeopardizing the lives of everyone around them. Full of twists and turns, 'The Prestige' is set against the backdrop of turn-of-the-century London. The cast includes Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson and David Bowie. Recently, we saw 'The Illusionist' with Edward Norton which we really liked and it was also set against the backdrop of turn-of-the-century London. The movie really delivers and is not one to be missed.

However, this one is equally intense. You'll spend the entire film slightly anxious, uncomfortable and rooting for Clive. Definitely worth the watch.

  • Oh the Muppets... you make every classic story better. And Kermit makes a great Bob Cratchit. And you can't forget Michael Caine.

  • This is a really cute movie. I liked it so much the first time I saw it that I watched it again tonight!

  • Downright fun and funny. Michael Caine at his best, with plenty of backup from a perfect cast and a daring heist to engage in. The Mini Coopers have some great driving stunts.

Forget the remake starring Sylvester Stallone (who were they trying to kid, really?). Get Carter is a gritty, tense crime movie, and a classic of British cinema. It still has a tinge of the swinging 60s with its brilliantly evocative soundtrack and inclusion of stars Michael Caine and Britt Ekland. Carter is not a particularly clever but well-dressed thug from London, who is driven by a cold yet inspired revenge when he travels to Newcastle to avenge his brother's death. It's a masterfully told and acted tale, as we follow Carter through the sad and seedy underbelly of working-class Newcastle. Stark and unsettling, it's truly a classic.
