Check it out...it is a great alternative to a booster seat. It is spring-loaded and attaches to most chairs to raise the chair and not the child. This seems so much more safe than the booster seats that fit on top of a chair...those always seem to slide around...it will be available mid-August, but you can pre-order one on the Kaboost site. Their site is great too...great graphics and very clean and easy to navigate.

In the beginning when your child is newborn you will need room to pack several outfits, a couple of bottles, maybe some formula and a few blankets. That's no problem with this bag, plus it fits over the stoller bars nicely and comes witha changin pad to keep your little one off of the filthy changing tables when you're out and about. As your child gets older this bag is great for road trips and overnight stays. If you have two children, no worries this bag has plenty of room for everything you need. There are mesh pouches on each side of the interior. I keep my sons diapers on one side and my daughter's on the other. A bag of large refill wipes in the middle and still have room for 4 bottles, a small can of formula, a couple outfits, medicine-etc, my cell phone and my keys. They will even monogram it for you if you like. The price is unbeatable too.

I love KiddingAroundToronto.com because it gives me fun event and activity ideas for my family every weekend in Toronto and the GTA. There is always something new for parents to find from great articles, and an imagination station, to reviews and a chat zone. And then there is the chance to shop and discover local programs, birthday ideas and more in the directory. I love the chance to feel connected to other parents and familes any time I go on the computer.

If you've read my book The Mother of All Parenting Books, you know that I adore one of the tracks on Momnipotent -- the song called "Mommas Have a Secret." (Nancy White -- the singer/songwriter who wrote and performed all the songs on this amazing album gave me permission to reprint an excerpt of the lyrics in the first chapter of my book.) I was thrilled when Nancy agreed. The song talks about how it's impossible to explain motherlove to someone who doesn't have a child, so we tend to brush over the really great stuff -- the stuff that practically defies description anyway. I have purchased and given away tons of copies of this CD over the years because it captures the early years of motherhood so well: the exhaustion, the crazy-making moments, and the hilarious bits, too.

LiteraryMama provides a unique home to writing that is both "literary" and "mama." As the site's guidelines note, "While plenty of other online literary magazines and journals publish writing like this, none devote themselves exclusively to writing about motherhood. And while there are other motherhood-centered sites that publish some fantastic writing, they tend to stick to shorter, non-fiction pieces. At Literary Mama, writers explore ideas and emotions that may be outside the usual scope of commercial writing." The result is consistently thought-provoking writing by mother writers that delves below the surface of motherhood. The site publishes fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, literary criticism, book reviews, columns, and profiles about mother writers. Also not to be missed -- Literary Mama's blog, which features Jennifer Lawrence (MUBAR).

They kind of feel like my "babies" because giving birth to each of these babies is truly a labor of love -- with equal emphasis on "labor" and "love." (I just about drive myself and my family crazy during each "book pregnancy.") There are American and Canadian editions of these books -- this series page @ Amazon.com only lists the US editions, but a quick search at Amazon.ca will pull up the Canadian editions instead. And this page doesn't list the two new books in the spin-off "The Mother of All Solutions" series: Sleep Solutions for Your Baby, Toddler, and Preschooler and Mealtime Solutions for Your Baby, Toddler, and Preschooler -- I guess because they're in a separate series. The books wouldn't be here at all if it weren't for the hundreds of parents who served on the research panels for the books over the years, providing input on what moms (and dads) really want to know about pregnancy, babies, toddlers, and parenting. I owe them a huge debt of gratitude.

Balance the need to stay home so your child can nap against your need to avoid cabin fever. You can quickly develop a case of cabin fever if you feel like you're trapped in the sleep-deprivation zone 24/7." While you don't want your child to miss his naps all the time, sometimes getting to your mom's group one afternoon a week is such an important pick-me-up for you that you're willing to deal with any temporary fallout from your child's disrupted nap schedule. See this part of the article: "Don't forget about mothering the new mother -- a tried-and-true tradition in many cultures. If mother-adrenaline has your friend spinning like a top, try to convince her to take a warm bath and catch up on her sleep. She needs to conserve her energy. Motherhood is a marathon, not a sprint event." My comment: Sometimes people forget all about the new mother in all the excitement about the new baby. A new mom needs practical and emotional support during this exciting but overwhelming time in her life.
