You have to touch, feel, own Nymphenburg porcelain to understand how great it is. notes: This skull was originally part of a Crucfix appearing in a small chapel located in the winter residence of the Wittelsbachs, inside the city walls of Munich. Gunther was commissioned to sculpt many of the elements in the chapel.

This two-part tasting bowl, commissioned from Sèvres by the Crown specifically for the farm, was designed for Marie Antoinette to partake of the farm's fresh milk and is said to be fashioned from a cast of her own breast. The artists adorned the tripod with the head and hoofs of a goat, the Queen's favorite animal. In 2004, Sèvres produced these two special bowls directly from its original moulds. An 18th Century original resides in the museum at the Sèvres manufactory.

It is this moment that has been captured in the décor "Woodgrain with Landscapes and Gold Edge". The "sheets" depicting the landscape are partially torn at the edge, as the sheets from which one copied in the workshop would also be worn from repeated use.

That's all changed now that I've seen the Biscuit collection from Studio Job for Royal Tichelaar Makkum. They've been available for several years-- I must have been sleeping the day these hit the nets because they're so undeniably cool. The many designs are based on iconic symbols- all presented with a twist. I hope they're food safe because I'm just impish enough to want to see if he'll still date me after I serve dinner on the plate called "cells."

Instead, Constantin Boym offers a set of plates devoted to unknown, completely non-descript areas of upstate New York. The views, taken with a digital camera, are "almost all right", to use the expression of Robert Venturi, yet there is always something slightly off key, either a jumble of telephone wires overhead, or a "wrong" car on the road.
