Tony Lucca
As a Michiganian, I guess it's only natural that I'd like a 'hometown' boy. :) A native of Waterford, Mich. Tony Lucca is one of the best-kept secrets in music/songwriting. This guy, who appeared on the New Mickey Mouse Club along side Britney, Christina, Justin and the like, had the opportunity for superstardom like those guys and gals--so I'm told--but he passed it up because he wanted to stay true to himself and his own unique musical style. The result is one of the most talented 'undiscovered' musical artists you'll ever listen to. I must admit, I do like his first few 'indie' releases better than his first "signed" deal--Shotgun--but his latest recording--Canyon Songs--is a really great disc. Tony's music contains a little bit of everything... rock, blues, folk, etc.

This song is so good and moves me so much that i skip it whenever it comes on. And that sucks because I LIKE the song and want to hear it. I'd have to go through the troublesome task of taking out my "emotion" chip first. Sigh.

This song makes me think of death. Not in a freaked out, morbid kind of way, but in a "however the wind blows, big beautiful existential sigh of resignation" kind of way. Good song.

To be honest, I had almost forgotten about Beirut. I'm not really sure how because this was one of my favorite albums of '06 and he is completely amazing. Indie folk, pop lovers will all appreciate this one.

It's the second of three albums from Brit-folk artists, Nick Drake. There's no argumnet to be had, it's one of the best albums of all time. Period. Buy it if you don't have it.

Like Damien Rice, this singer songwriter's music is hauntingly beautiful and will stomp on your heart. Great stuff. Just have a listen to: "Burn" and "All the Wild Horses". Oberst is pretty much a musical genius who at age 14 fronted the band Commander Venus. His musical maturity is outstanding and makes you wonder what is up with all the popular whiny 30-something rock bands screaming about the angst of youth. Oy.
