I'm From Barcelona - Let Me Introduce My Friends

Imagine if your Middle School choir class was as tight as the Frat Boys who spank each other. Now give them a little more talent, a kiss of adolescent innocence and a splash of Swedish fun all led by the very same creepy music teacher and you get - I'm From Barcelona! - (cheq their video in the 'Articles' section)

In a lot of ways, it's the album I've been waiting for. Sure, it's another indie lo-fi album, which seems to be in abundance these days, but also Woods manages to make the sound more wholesome, low key. In short, it's progressive, but still up my alley.

The beauty of Mason Proper is that their albums always seem to be one cohesive piece even though each song is definitely its own. The understanding of complex musical nuances is very apparent - the theme of each song is known to the listener even before you grasp what the lyrics are about. Although I like their previous album, There is a Moth in your Chest, just as well, there is an obvious progression in maturity, structure, and cohesiveness on this album. It is very melodic and at times, quite dark... just take a chance and buy this one! If you'd like to sample them with a few single iTunes, I'd try "In the Mirror," "Dragging the River," or "Alone." You will NOT regret picking this album up, or supporting such a talented, friendly group of guys.
