Kind Hearts and Coronets

Kind Hearts and Coronets

A great British comedy about disinherited Louis D'Ascoyne Mazzini who plots his way to capture the dukedom by killing the eight people standing in his way. Starring Dennis Price as Louis and Alec Guiness (before Obi-won Kenobi) as all eight characters who stand in Louis's way.

Kids are suppose to be ugly and awkward. Then they blossom. Sorry, I'm still mad at China over that whole thing... Anyway, there are ugly children in this movie. They sing songs. They dance and make pouty sour faces until MARY POPPPPINSSS (Oprah voice) flies into town to sprinkle their lives with magic! This movie is evidence that EVERYONE was high in the 60's.

This is a grim reminder to any idealistic person who wants to get out in the wilderness and "conquer" nature. Nature is better than you. Its stronger and faster and smarter and bites a lot harder. Know this. This is the story of Timothy Treadwell, the self proclaimed Grizzly expert who thought that through some dillusional right or privilege, he could 'save' the bears. I guess they didn't want his 'help' because they ate him. And his girlfriend too. Eesh. This is a great, awkward and unsettling documentary by none other than Werner Herzog. Of course.

  • Definitely one of the better Showtime series. Delves into a unexplored reality of drug-selling among the suburban "desperate housewife" demographic.

This French language film, directed by the late François Truffaut, is a series of vignettes about childhood. My favorites are the boy who has a crush on his friend's mother and buys her red roses (for passion!) and the policeman's daughter who takes advantage of his bullhorn. I first saw Small Change as part of a film series at the university I attended. Le petit Grégory, who falls from the window and isn't hurt (Grégory go boom!), was a favorite with the student audience

Geena Davis plays a TV reporter who has the only clue to his identity - the shoe he lost. He's picked up by homeless Andy Garcia, and tosses away his missing shoe. Andy Garcia presents the other shoe, as in a male version of Cinderella, and is acclaimed as the hero. Dustin Hoffman's character remains anonymous to others until he goes out on a ledge to talk with Andy Garcia, who's about to jump to his death. This movie is fun on its own, but can also be seen as a reflection on media-created heroes
