A handful of cubic zirconia

While watching "Will it Blend" last night I was wondering how much a big handfull of cubic zirconia costs. The answer is surprisingly little. For around $30 you can get 25 1cm (about 3/8ths of an inch) round cubic zirconia. You could get 200 lower quality ones of a half cm round (3/16ths of an inch) for a little more than $20. The company, Pehnec, in addition to the white round gems, also sells cubic zirconia in a wide variety of colours and shapes. So if you feel like letting jewels trickle through your fingers after a hard day of work, that's probably the way to go. I'm not sure why this appeals to me so much, but it does. I could see using these as party favors. My boyfriend thinks that they would make great gravel for the bottom of a fish tank. Update: I got this for my mother for her birthday and she loves them. They are strangely compelling and fun to play with especially if you put them out on a black lacquer tray.
