  • Rinse out your plastic bags and reuse them. Why not? A lot of times I get stuck using paper towels to dry my hands with, too, so I usually use those out to dry for reuse. This would work for that, too.

Now it doesn't matter where you live, you can dramatically reduce your waste. If you're anything like me, you get carried away at the farmer's market, and a week later, have some sad veggies that didn't get used. Now, you don't have to feel doubly guilty when you have to throw them out!

This is the ONLY coffee we will drink anymore. We started out trying it because it supports a wonderful, Inter-faith cooperative of coffee farmers in Uganda, but we continue to drink it because it is outrageously delicious. (Every once in awhile we run out, and I try to make some other coffee, and, somehow, my husband just knows instantly that he is being duped!) This coffee is organic, Fair Trade, and comes from a wonderful group of coffee farmers that has crossed all lines of faith and come together in an effort to create harmony in their community. In an area often filled with strife and discord, these farmers are showing their neighbors that those who work together, build peace and community together. Supporting this coffee helps guarantee their success, because it was purchased at a Fair Trade price.

Finally, a drinking water bottle that makes sense on multiple levels. There are numerous environmental concerns that this bottle addresses: 1. Made from corn resin (also known as polylactic acid or PLA), unlike regular PET plastic, which is made from petroleum, this new plastic helps reduce our dependency on oil, and also helps reduce pollution produced during manufacture. 2. This bottle comes with its own carbon-based filter, unlike SIGG bottles or the like, and so it can be filled with regular tap water and you get to drink FILTERED water. Cool! 3. It can be reused up to 90 times, reducing waste, and then can be tossed guilt-free, or even recycled through special PLA recycling programs. Replacing it every so often helps eliminate the possibility of bacteria build-up in your bottle. I just love this bottle!! Check it out!!

This product proves that we can create a sustainable lifestyle by altering the way we think about the products we use. If a mug can be made from corn instead of plastic, what other sorts of products could we produce this way? Imagine how much this could help our farmers, reduce our dependency on foreign petroleum products, and reduce the non-biodegradable materials added to landfills every day. I love it!

Well, if you are looking to go a little bit greener, then recycled paper towels are the ticket. In fact, recycled paper everything would be great, but I'll be honest. Seventh Generation's recycled facial tissue and toilet paper are a bit too flimsy for some people (I use them, but I know a few people who won't). The paper towels, on the other hand, are just like other regular (not super-absorbent) paper towels out there.

By using the natural process of evaporation with the Zeer Pot, that's how! Basically the Zeer Pot consists of two clay pots nestled inside each other, with the space in-between the two pots filled with wet sand, and the contents residing in the inner pot. Both pots are covered by a damp cloth. The natural process of evaporation draws the heat out of the inner pot, helping to preserve the food. How cool is that?! Unfortunately, I haven't found a retailer in the States, but it appears easy to make.... give it a try!

Simply put, unless you buy all of your fruits & veggies organic, then you NEED a non-toxix, biodegradable wash that will remove pesticides, wax, and other harmful residues. I used to use one that came out of a squirt bottle, like dish soap, but this spray bottle is much easier to use and covers more surface area more easily.
