Kiki is the fragrance from contemporary artist Kiki Smith, designed in collaboration with the award-winning French fragrance designer, Christophe Laudamiel. Kiki is a study of balance and contrast and is unabashedly green and fresh while deeply and unexpectedly, lush, warm and dynamic. The fragrance evokes Kiki's most significant olfactory memories: musks, boxwood, patchouli and sandalwood next to fresh, ripe foliage and fig leaf notes. The uniquely soothing, enveloping warmth and herbaceousness of blue chamomile and the bright and summery smell of narcisse create an incandescent, satisfying and fearless scent that is diffusive and illuminating.

(a poem made into a short film? or a music video, xcept with verse instead of singing? dont know but i think this is one of my favorite videos of all time!) <3 its great to see art for a change, instead of just "im so funny!! im so funny!" not that its bad to be humorous...i mean its cool to see theres substance, not just an obsession w/ style. One of the most important and innovative artists in contemporary China, Zhang Huan (b. 1965) brought the burgeoning Chinese art scene to international attention in the 1990s with a series of taboo-breaking performances. His artwork continues to explore the tragedies of the human condition and the spiritual essence of Buddhism in a range of media that includes photography, painting and monumental sculpture. Zhang's work has been exhibited in the world's most prestigious museums and international exhibitions, including the 1999 Venice Biennale, the 2001 Yokohama Triennial and the 2002 Whitney Biennial. This monograph is the first complete analysis of the artist's entire career, from his beginnings in the communal art scene of Beijing's East Village to his breakthrough in New York and his return to Shanghai, where he now runs a studio with over 40 assistants.

This Phaidon soft cover is packed with captivating images from some of the most poetic art events created by Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang. This is no small feat as Guo-Qiang's work is difficult to document since you really have to be there to get a true experience of it. "...These have included works such as an extension to the Great Wall of China, designed to be seen from outer space by extraterrestrial beings; feng shui arrangements of private living spaces both in Japn and New York; participatory projects with kites, jacuzzis and mini golf courses, and sculptures constructed from melted-down cars or abandoned boats. His projects are strongly influenced by their location and the works are frequently altered or developed as they are exhibited at new sites. Unifying Cai's wide-ranging work is his consistent investigation of humanity's place within the universe..."

Who knew Robert Redford could tap dance ? (He's actually pretty good.) But what really drives this plot forward is the plight of a performance artist (Daryl Hannah) who is in search of a painting her deceased father gave to her as a child. Robert Redford gets caught in the legal, parental and romantic crossfire between Hannah's lawyer (Debra Winger), Hannah herself, and his tween daughter. A fun, slightly campy legal thriller.

Yeah, you're doing your art, or thinking about doing your art, or hoping you'll have time and money to make art (or music), and then someone like Anat Ben-David pops up on your desktop, flowing easily with a ocean of possibilities. Anat Ben-David works in video, performance, installation, text, paint, sculpture, and probably many other forms I'm too busy to mention. It's her 2008 work that caught my eye, an imaginary, international, all girl, group band. The band members are multicultural /multilingual and fictional, Anat performs all the band members by duplicating her image. I loved all of it, and still want more. About Anat Ben-David latest work www.yippieyeah.co.uk/anat Anat Ben-David is part of an endangered species of true Renaissance artists, educated from a young age as dancer and painter in the UK and Israel, growing up to become a mover and shaker in Jerusalems underground scene, then choosing performance art as a weapon of mass distraction incorporating and integrating video, theatre and plastic art into a gesamtkunstwerk that challenged audiences and peers in a scene too tiny and puny for her artistic vision. Next stop London! Drawing from a range of classical avant-garde traditions - painting to performance to cabaret - Anat Ben-Davids incarnation as neo-pop diva was born out of her not-entirely PC meditation on pop and Fascism, the Popaganda project. Ben-David nobly tributes modernist art movements like Dada and Futurism while at the same time mobilising their aesthetics and ideas to create an artistic discourse walking on a tightrope: welding utopian modernist rallying cries to the individual yet authoritarian stage persona, and applying mass marketing sensibilities not in the service of capital, but of autonomous, empowered, defiant art-for-its-own-sake. Ben-David channels dormant, fading roars from a century back, placing them in the contemporary arena thus opening yet another conceptual border-crossing portal. Applied musically, her approach results in a gnarly, grrly beast that lends contemporary electro-femdom an aroma of timelessness, an instinctive grasp of wider historical context and a mastery of entertainment erected on a will to power. This comprehensive overview, the first to appear in almost a decade, examines an artistic career, that now must be viewed as one of the most fascinating in the history of Contemporary art. From his highly controversial and seminal performance works of the early 1970s, to his complex, imaginative installations and monumental sculptures, the art of Chris Burden uniquely informs as well as incorporates the major artistic undercurrents of the last three decades. Not only has the artist made a major contribution to the history of body-related performance art, but the artist's fascination with systems of power, societal organization, architectural structure and technological systems, have resulted in an extraordinary body of sculptural objects and environmental installations over the last 35 years. In compiling this publication the artist has worked closely with curator and long time associate Fred Hoffman, taking this opportunity to re-examine his work afresh and revealing images that are unpublished or rarely seen.
