With long hours at work, short daylight hours and a hyperactive puppy on hand, I was desperate. I needed something that would wear her out. This blinky ball does the trick - and it's lasted months! It's a hard plastic ball, so avoid pavement use (unless you roll it), but it's perfect on dark grassy lots. The light blinks for about 25 seconds at a time, so if your dog wanders off and drops it somewhere, make sure you act quickly if you're using it at night. (A little jiggle gets the ball to light up, your dog can usually do it itself.)

Then, at my nephew's 1st birthday party last weekend, someone brought over a frisbee. Within 6 hours, I had Peaches chasing it down, catching it out of mid-air, and most amazingly, releasing the damn thing after she'd brought it back to me. Throwing a frisbee to a dog -- it may seem cliche, but once your best friend has mastered it, it's a lot, lot, lot of fun.
