Candela Rechargeable Aqua Lamps

Candela Rechargeable Aqua Lamps

These make a terrific baby gift for new parents. They can be used as a combination night-light and flashlight -- providing just enough of a middle-of-the-night glow to light the way to baby's room in the middle of the night. They also work well in baby's room because they don't get overly hot and they don't rely on electricity for power, so there aren't any electrical cords to worry about. They're a top-selling item in gift shop at the parenting center where I offer many of my parenting workshops and a number of parents that I interviewed for one of my recent books recommended them as a middle-of-the-night essential for parents with night-waking babies.

  • Conceive magazine! Who knew this publication existed? I would keep this in the room as a dart board! After wards will burn it in the garbage and do a ceremonial dance!

  • If you're expecting this Halloween I highly recommend that you enjoy what could be your last adult party for a while. These great maternity costumes make dressing up a snap.

It's called Prego Planner by Braelyn Bounty Bug. It's a completely functional and fabulous planner that lets a mother-to-be personalize her OWN pregnancy. It has everything from an undated calendar to an area where you can record all important information (OBGYN/Midwife contact information, insurance information, pharmacy information, hospital information, prenatal visit information, etc.) along with an extensive area where you can write all questions and concerns you have for your doctor. There's also a list of great interview questions for your potential pediatrician and an extensive nursery and baby checklist. The last section contains an area for your birth plan, birthing class notes, hospital packing checklist, family and friends call list, a list of things to do within 30 days after the baby is born and much, much more. It's GREAT!! It encompasses everything about MY pregnancy. I love it and keep it with me just about everywhere I go.

This is a collection of eight half hour audio programs in a 4-CD set. Each CD is packaged with a booklet containing descriptions of the shows and performers, written and illustrated by host and producer Nanci Olesen. You can buy a single volume or the whole set. (Naturally, more is better!) I'm one of the women featured on the first CD (the one about pregnancy and newborn shock). Nanci and I talk about the ups and downs of each of the three trimesters.

It's easy for "the bill chill" to set in between you and your partner when neither of you is getting enough sleep -- situation normal when there's a new baby in your life. Rather than keeping score about whose turn it is to get up in the night with the baby, "Think of your parental energy as a pooled asset. That way you'll see each other's naps and breaks as something that's good for you both. This fresh perspective should lead to less tossing and turning and, as the chill begins to leave the bedroom, some very good nights for you both." (Read more)

They kind of feel like my "babies" because giving birth to each of these babies is truly a labor of love -- with equal emphasis on "labor" and "love." (I just about drive myself and my family crazy during each "book pregnancy.") There are American and Canadian editions of these books -- this series page @ Amazon.com only lists the US editions, but a quick search at Amazon.ca will pull up the Canadian editions instead. And this page doesn't list the two new books in the spin-off "The Mother of All Solutions" series: Sleep Solutions for Your Baby, Toddler, and Preschooler and Mealtime Solutions for Your Baby, Toddler, and Preschooler -- I guess because they're in a separate series. The books wouldn't be here at all if it weren't for the hundreds of parents who served on the research panels for the books over the years, providing input on what moms (and dads) really want to know about pregnancy, babies, toddlers, and parenting. I owe them a huge debt of gratitude.

See this part of the article: "Don't forget about mothering the new mother -- a tried-and-true tradition in many cultures. If mother-adrenaline has your friend spinning like a top, try to convince her to take a warm bath and catch up on her sleep. She needs to conserve her energy. Motherhood is a marathon, not a sprint event." My comment: Sometimes people forget all about the new mother in all the excitement about the new baby. A new mom needs practical and emotional support during this exciting but overwhelming time in her life.
