"Jazz" Apples
Okay, I admit that recommending a type of apple may be a little bit weird, but Jazz apples are really good. They are pretty hard to find in Southern California, but when they are available - they are the only apple that I buy. The Jazz Apple is grown in New Zealand and is a hybrid combination of the Gala and Braeburn apple varieties. To me, the Jazz apple has a tangy sweetness and a nice crisp crunch.

I love, love granny smith apples. They're sweet and tart. They make a great snack when your on the go. And they're essential for apple pies. I also like to use a little minced granny apples in my cornbread stuffing.

They'll flank the Kinara, which is the candleholder with 7 candles, one per Kwanzaa principle. (phew!) The other fruits and vegetables go in the mazao (basket). Traditional inclusions are pumpkins, squash, bananas and sweet potatoes--and whatever else you like. Since these are seasonal, the LocalHarvest stores should have them available for home delivery, so that you can focus on the rest of your Kwanzaa decorations!
