The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club: True Tales from a Magnificent and Clumsy Life

It just makes me giggle and think that maybe I'm not as crazy as I thought I was.

This entire book is a cliche: nerdy boy declares love for popular girl (a cheerleader, of course) and the whole plan goes topsy-turvy when the cheerleader, a certain Beth Cooper acknowledges. Hilarity ensues. I know what you're thinking: yawn. Fortunately for me (a person who, for the first time in at least a few years, shelled out $10 for a paperback copy), this book was, in fact hilarious. It read like the best teen movie I'd never seen. The charactors were interesting, perfectly constructed archetypes, and there were just enopugh zig-zags in the plot to keep me entertained. The writing was thoughtful, and the descriptions always added something to the scene, while not taking away from the plot (liking due to Doyle's history in writing for television- yes I even read the "about the author") I highly recommend this book: it was worth every penny (even if it weren't bought used) and then some.

I am a big fan of his ever since I first saw his HBO special "Complaints and Grievances" at age 13. Carlin was one of the most influential people in my life and I regret the fact that I'll never get to see him in person. Brain Droppings was the first of Carlin's books I read and although it wasn't as funny as Napalm and Silly Putty it is still something to be treasured. Carlin would probably hate it if I said rest in peace so I'll end this recommendation in a way Carlin might have and just thank him for the good times.

It totally put a smile on my face. "Our Dumb World" covers different regions of the world with a more sarcastic and funny view. You don't get boring descriptions about altitude or longitude. A must read during the winter months.

He even liked that movie that had Superman in it and like a million kids in a house. Anyway, this book is amazing as a history of one the true wild and crazy guys. The book reads like a memoir, but it is also an illuminating guidebook to stand-up from the guy who hung with Belushi and the OG crew of SNL greats. Amazing BW photos and stories that are sure to make any guy wanna hit the stage and knock em dead.

This book inspired me to want to become a comedy writer and stand up comedian (dreams I never followed through with). George Carlin is truly a master of the English language and is probably the most adept at word choice in all of comedy. A huge influence on my sense of humor and my life. He probably hates you. Thanks George.
