the prayer of st frances

A beautiful piece with lots of soul. From the seller: this is a large piece, 36x24" its acrylic on canvas, with texture and written word. it is a beautiful rich rusty color with mustard yellow and brown accents. there is texture on both sides and various shades of brown washes over the texture. the entire piece has been varnished with gloss to protect. in the first picture you can see where the varnish is wet and where it is dry. it does not look 2 tone in person, i applologize!! . the edges are painted brown, no need to frame. the poem is called 'the prayer of st. frances' and is one of the oldest poems ever recorded, author is unknown. don't strain your eyes (hehe), it reads as follows: lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. where there is hatred let me sow love. where there is injury, let me give pardon. where there is doubt, let me sow faith. where there is despair, let me show hope. where there is darkness, let me show light. and where there is sadness, let me sow joy. o divine master, grant that i may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console. to be understood as to understand. to be loved as to love. for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. amen. so beautiful, right?? i love it.

Was Buddha (525 B.C.) significantly influenced by Solomon's (950 B.C.) ethics and approach to spiritual formation as he developed his new religion? If he was, this could explain the numerous similarities between the teachings of Jesus and Buddha. An extensive, topically arranged, side-by-side review of similarities and contrasts in the teachings of Jesus and Buddha is also presented. This book also provides a quick way for Westerners to comprehend Buddhism. Seven comparative reasons are presented that support the plausibility of the book's hypothesis. The number of parallels are very extensive and intriguing. Numerous historical reasons why this Solomon-Buddha hypothesis is plausible are also covered. That there was much trade and contact between the middle East and India during the 400 years between the lives of Solomon and Buddha is very likely. The book surveys a range of sources supporting this possibility.

I feel like a voodoo goddess! From the artist: his necklace can be adapted for a man ( or women who like clean, unfettered design) to wear by removing the chain and dangles. Without this ornamentation the necklace is straightforward, balanced and beautifully designed. The texture of those old, worn vertabrae becomes the focal point. In Asia dragons are considered powerful messengers and allies, and in early Europe enjoyed similar respect. Yet as time passed, European dragons were given an undeserved reputation for being ill natured and fiery tempered. Celtic dragon lovers have never forgotten dragons symbolize power, and there are air, water, fire and earth dragons embodying characteristics of their respective elements. The much aligned serpent was once associated with the Goddess and spiritual wisdom by numerous ancient cultures. African shamans often wear snake vertebrae as part of their ritual regalia. This unusual piece incorporates parts of 2 different, vintage snake vertebrae from Africa. They are unusual because these bones are small and delicate, the newer snake vertabrae on the market today is much larger and gnarly as well). The pale and light sides represent the darkness and light which in harmony, balance existence. Elegantly carved, diminutive skulls symbolize the ephemeral nature of life. 2 gray green glass beads with faceted, reptilian surfaces remind me of reptile and dragon scales. The curved brass(made by the Naga, a former headhunting tribe ) pendants are an ancient design similar to that used in weaponry (think Russian scimitars and Incan Tumi) and small, traditional knives of Inuit women. Life is fragile and may be severed without warning, like a sharpened sword slicing through layers of wafting, silk veils. Another interpretation is that sometimes sacrifice is called for, and we must cut excess baggage, pleasures, and desires to survive. By the same token, recall the times you’ve sacrificed time, energy, and personal wants to help others. An ancient, worn brass piece sits high on the neck. This was once a brass bell, worn for so long and by so many generations that the sharp edges have worn into gentle curves. It looks like a small dipper or cup, and I placed it here to catch blessings. The dragon vial pendant is made from high fired ceramic and glazed within. Its not leak proof, so use it to hold sacred earth, herbs, beads, a lock of your beloved’s curls, but not liquid. Make sure the cork is securely sealed. The antiqued brass chains are long enough for customized draping. Like snakes, they wind around the pendant as you will. Customize this necklace by adding your own amulets, delicate chains, or beads. And now for the bones…how to know they are vintage? By the worn, smooth surfaces. A relatively new snake vertebrae has sharp edges, and looks dry, slightly grainy. Only prolonged, constant contact with human skin cures the bone to the appearance of old ivory. If a new spine is coated in varnish, often done to enhance color and smooth the surface, sharp edges can still be seen and felt by running a fingertip lightly against the articulated bones. These vertebrae are smooth, the pale bones have a warm gleam like old ivory. The dark vertebrae has subtle variations in tone not seen in new snake vertebrae, which are so uniform in color as to appear dyed (and often are). These bones are organic forms and not machine made,so this the necklace may shift from time to time. If you want a uniform appearance, gently readjust the vertebrae to slide back into one another. Antique African trade beads sit on either side of the coated brass clasp. Strung on leather cord. 23"

This is so unusual-looking that I had to learn more. From the artist: Here’s a beautifully crafted collector’s piece of Indian tribal silver, a vintage or older necklace but not old enough to be considered antique. The piece is substantial and does not have wax or resin inside. The disks on either side display an almost abstract outline of a peacock with its tail spread. As this has been worn and is an old necklace there are slight pits and scratches but overall its in excellent condition. I used a jeweler's cloth to bring up the shine but a fine patina is visible. I photographed this in daylight, with a flash and with differnt backgrounds to provide a good idea of what the actual item looks like.

Beautiful and stunning. Love the purple. From the artist: Nowadays, bat mitzvah girls who wish to be called up to read from the Torah in the synagogue, and learn the portion of the week from the Bible and the Haftarah portion of the Prophets, enwrap in a Tallit and cover their heads when they are called up to read from the Torah. Adult women returning to their roots, too, celebrate bat mitzvah and enwrap in a Tallit when they are called up to read from the Torah. Bat mitzvah girls choose a kosher bat mitzvah Tallit that has fringes in accordance with Jewish religious laws, and an atarah, and has some fashionable features as well. Adult women choose a Tallit that has been specially designed for women and are called Tallit Nashim or women’s Tallitot.

From the artist: This radiant glass sculpture is designed to reflect balance, peace, and harmony into the world. It is a bas-relief style sculpture of a woman sitting in meditation, with her hands in anjali mudra, or prayer position. She is smiling with serenity as she focuses her intention on being a living manifestation of love for the benefit of all beings. It is a sand cast piece, meaning I made a sand mold of my ceramic sculpture and ladled molten glass into the sand, sprinkled colored glass powder on the back, and let it anneal in a kiln for 60 hours before grinding and polishing the edges. It is freestanding, and looks especially inspiring in a windowsill with sunlight coming through. It measures approximately 9 inches tall, 8.5" wide, and 2" deep. A fine piece of figurative glass sculpture to inspire a wholesome state of graceful well being.
