RiverRun Bookstore, Portsmouth NH Independent New Hampshire Bookstore
All hail the survival of the independent bookstore and the push for going local. The RiverRun Bookstore is a prime example of how a community sticking together and quality effort come together to benefit all, including out-of-towners like me. I was in the phenomenal town of Portsmouth, NH, a five hour drive out of my way, to hear Stephen King speak about his latest work. To make a long story short, I was able to get my name on a wait list at RiverRun after the event to get a coveted autographed copy of the novel, without much hope of being able to secure an extra copy to give as a special gift to my father. Well, Lo, I got the great news that I would not only be getting an autographed copy shipped to me, it would only cost me $35 plus shipping -- I had been dubiously eyeing eBay auctions, which were ending at over $250 for the same item. Of course, RiverRun has far more to offer than one-off special deals like this one, like personalized recommendations and carefully curated inventory. Plus the staff was friendly without being cloying. I wish my town had a bookstore like RiverRun. I'll have to be satisfied with knowing I will be back in Portsmouth in the Spring, with RiverRun on my ToDo list.
