STUDIO JOB : Biscuit Collection

I am not a fan of plates as decorative objects to be hung on walls... at least I wasn't. That's all changed now that I've seen the Biscuit collection from Studio Job for Royal Tichelaar Makkum. They've been available for several years-- I must have been sleeping the day these hit the nets because they're so undeniably cool. The many designs are based on iconic symbols- all presented with a twist. I hope they're food safe because I'm just impish enough to want to see if he'll still date me after I serve dinner on the plate called "cells."

Squirrel Still life Bank designed by studio job for royal tichelaar makkum, the still life series was introduced at milan, 2003. that year the collection was an investigation into makkum's past. studio job looked into archival forms and came up with a concept of re-inventing the decoration based on variations of undecorated, transfer decorated and hand decorated. the hand decoration usually involved the classic blue coloration. pieces chosen included a piggy bank, mantel clock, precious box, vase and candleholder. versions in the image are (starting at 12 and going clockwise): white, handpainted, screen printed.
