V for Vendetta

V for Vendetta

That was a great, great movie! The plot is a terrorist freedom fighter known only as "V" begins a violent guerilla campaign to destroy those who've succumbed to totalitarianism, and recruits a young woman he's rescued from the secret police to join him.

Based on the 1951 Ray Bradbury novel of the same name. Guy Montag is a firefighter who lives in a lonely, isolated society where books have been outlawed by a government fearing an independent-thinking public. It is the duty of firefighters to burn any books on sight or said collections that have been reported by informants. People in this society including Montag's wife are drugged into compliancy and get their information from wall-length television screens. After Montag falls in love with book-hoarding Clarisse, he begins to read confiscated books. It is through this relationship that he begins to question the government's motives behind book-burning. Montag is soon found out, and he must decide whether to return to his job or run away knowing full well the consequences that he could face if captured. The film stars Oskar Werner as Guy Montag, Julie Christie as Clarisse/Linda Montag and Cyril Cusack as The Captain. A classic in its visionary brilliance and an absolute must-see!

James, comes the theatrical version of one of her novel, 'The Children of Men'. In 2027, in a chaotic world in which humans can no longer procreate, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea, where her child's birth may help scientists save the future of humankind The film stars Clive Owen as Theodore Faron, Julianne Moore as Julian Taylor, Michael Caine as Jasper and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Luke This novel comments on the inability of Western science to prevent the impending end of the species or to discover the cause of sterility and on how lack of a visible future affects the human race with apathy and cruelty. Let's hope the movie is as good as the book. We can't wait to see it.
