The Stencil Library: Stencils
I've thought of stencils as being mainly awful pastel flower borders in people's bathrooms. This company changed my mind. Stencils can range from large individual designs that are a piece of art, to patterns that can be extended to be wallpaper, to those dreaded borders. You can put intricate paisleys on your wall, or a lovely allium, or a flock of sparrows crossing the wall and ceiling. You can put a campy astronaut on your kid's wall if he or she dreams of space. You can put a border of barbed wire on your teen's wall if they are at a prickly age. There seems to be something for everyone here. The company is in the UK but ships worldwide.

I love the black, it's really classy and stays steady in a world of changing design, favorite colors, samples, and all the elements that are wild in our office. We used a stencil of numbers to keep them organized, and re-purposed the wall paint color to stencil the numbers on the boxes. It's really fun and such a great way to keep track of all the... well... stuff of design. :)

Ok... Cheap Alert. These are so cheap it's insane. Ikea, of course. The best thing about these is that they are sturdy cardboard, so you can do whatever you want to them. The best thing about these is that they are sturdy cardboard, so you can do whatever you want to them. I've used them in an office and painted them - so fun... You can use masking tape and tape off a striped area on them for a more traditional look, and use a sharpie and write on them afterward. I've also used stencils of numbers and numbered and lettered them. You can also paper them with scrapbook paper, or newspaper. If you're like me, and your magazine collection is creeping into every room, these are for you!
