John Canning Studios

The eponymous founder of John Canning Painting and Conservation Studios has been responsible for noteworthy projects such as the gilding restoration at Radio City Music Hall and the restoration of the Grand Central Terminal Sky Mural. While working on the train station’s vaulted constellations, Canning’s artists discovered notes, messages and signatures of the workers who reinstated the mural in 1944. True to his preservationist discipline, Canning left the early artisans’ messages untouched. The Canning studio is also equipped to do faux painting (e.g. marbling and wood-graining), trompe l’oeil and ornamental plasterwork for both residential and commercial spaces.
