This particular design has a silicone lid that securely attaches to the cup. The outside is matte and the inside is glazed. I prefer a version that Starbucks put out a few months ago. Their version is pretty much the same, but the outside is glazed (and of course has their logo) and the lid is plastic with a silicone liner to keep liquids sealed in. The key difference between the two is the price. "I Am Not A Paper Cup" is roughly $20 and the Starbucks version is $12. The upsides to either is that if you are a daily coffee drinker, you don't have to trash a paper cup and plastic lid every time you get take-out coffee. The downside is that both of them hold about 8 oz. - not favorable if you normally order a "grande" at Starbucks. Another issue for commuters is that it is not spill-proof or splash-proof. And finally, the Starbucks version CANNOT go into the microwave.

I just now made some popcorn with this beauty, and it turned out perfectly, just as it does every time. No old maids, no burned edges... just light, fluffy, lovely bowlful of popcorn, again and again and again. My only complaint about the Whirley-Pop is that it's not exactly simple to get the corn to pour out just so. It tends to be a little awkward. But I'm willing to live with that, so long as the popcorn remains so tremendous.

  • As I found to be equally true with my cell phone, there are a finite number of times that you can drop the top of an OXO Salad Spinner on a hard surface. Even a product of such high quality as the OXO Salad Spinner has its limits.... As I found to be equally true with my cell phone, there are a finite number of times that you can drop the top of an OXO Salad Spinner on a hard surface. Even a product of such high quality as the OXO Salad Spinner has its limits. (My cell phone had its limits too, but not quite as many.) For me, a salad spinner is a requirement of my kitchen: its uses go beyond merely making lettuce dizzy. I use my salad spinner for cleaning and drying lettuce, parsley, sage leaves, green beans, brussel sprouts, and any other herb or vegetable that needs cleaning and drying before using. So I really needed a new salad spinner. Again, just like my new cell phone, the technology followed Moore’s Law: the new salad spinner that I bought was the OXO SoftWorks and the upgrade is terrific! (I’m switching metaphors now: we’re going from cell phones to cars.) This model is turbocharged: it just spins faster with less effort. And the basket just keeps on going...The braking system (yes, it has a braking system) is a little underpowered and you really need to bear down to stop high RPMs. (But you won’t want to because the clear bowl allows you to watch the magic of centrifugal force as an amazing amount of water separates itself from your lettuce leaves.)
