Hercules and Love Affair: Hercules and Love Affair

dfa does disco! (and dallas?) antony (of antony and the johnsons) joins dfa's tim goldsworthy and andrew butler and make one of the year's best--not to mention most surprising--lps. butler and goldsworthy's production is absolutely top-notch, referencing both disco and early chi house without becoming slavering idolatry, and antony's tremulous, plaintive affectations are a great fit--the only time you will ever hear/read me say that. unless, of course, they make a second album.

  • I'm quite the heavy hitter as far as music criticism goes, this has by far pasted my expectations. It has a new funky, electronic music style accompanied by a gentle yet powerful beat. With one message LIFE IN THE NIGHT IS TIGHT!
