Tumi Wheeled Boarding Tote

Tumi Wheeled Boarding Tote

Those Alexander McQueen ribcage bags seem cool at first, but the idea with carry-on luggage is to look sleek and expensive - not sleek, and possibly into cannibalism. Enter the Tumi Boarding Tote in Silver Alloy. Tumi calls the color "Discontinued" - but I prefer "Limited Edition" ($289 - nee $425 at Tumi.com)

  • Cherish every moment you get to enjoy the music of MIA. Why? Because she could up and quite and any given time. I mean, she has before. Oh, and this album is amazing.

With an elegant, streamlined cut, this charcoal and black wool mini dress harkens back to a time when hostesses breezed through the foyer with two fresh daquiris in hand to greet the latecomers with a salutation like, "Well, look what the cat dragged in!" Pair it with wedge platforms a la Balenciaga for a killer leg, or go the whole nine with chunky heeled loafers.

The solution to my Keds/Converse conundrum, these black corduroy-style tennis shoes are perfect all-the-time sneakers. They're slightly more elegant than black Chuck Taylors and more edgy than classic Keds, with a streamlined cut and a deep black velvet colorway that make them match everything. Sure they're made for men, but I would pick them up in a UK men's size 7 and hope for the best. (about $117 at f-troupe.com)

Logo T-shirts have gone through many phases - the product placement tee, the humorously reworked logo tee (FedUp - get it?!?), the completely fabricated and slightly racist logo tee (cough - urban outfitters - cough) - and now, the based-on-a-true-work-of-fiction tee. Last Exit To Nowhere, a company based out of Nottingham, England, promotes invented companies made famous or infamous by the stories they inhabit - and company founder Mike Ford makes sure their logos are poetically suited to the company's character and context as told in the story. Thus, a logo for "Bladerunner"'s Tyrell Corporation incorporates a frowning owl - a reference to the scene in which Deckard visits Tyrell for the first time and sees an artificial owl - while Amity Island, from "Jaws", gets a woman serenely sunbathing on a float in the ocean. It's a novel idea, one that harkens back to the days where the product placement in fictional works was actually fictional.
