Dagmar Krause by Hanns Eisler

Dagmar Krause by Hanns Eisler

I'm one of those music addicts that refuses to listen to Broadway Musicals written after 1979, yet I'm a fan of Broadway 'like' composers such as David Bowie, Kate Bush, Nina Hagen, and so on. At some point the music of Weill and Brecht and Eisler was introduced to me through the iconic voice of Dagmar Krause. "Tank Battles: Songs of Hanns Eisler" contains many of Eisler's strongest works, and I'm happy for the english versions contained in TB as the lyrics play a massive role in not only the understanding of Eisler's narratives, but also as a entrance into the vocal performance which Dagmar Krause gives so richly.

I only recently discovered this guy in my effort to find more Halloween music and he has quickly become one of my favorite recording artists. Havanna born Voltaire (if that IS his real name...) makes dinner music for the Addams family... His musical style is unique, with salsa rythms, surfrock/psychobilly drums and guitar and gypsy caberet violins... think Danny Elfman, Tom Waits and Cab Calloway if they all got together to jam. The song topics run the range of typical 50's horror movie fair: zombies, devils, vampires but all interpreted with a modern wicked sense of humor...dark as pitch humor that makes "evil" fun... this is music for any occassion as long as such occassion may end in a plan to injure puppies and dig up corpses.
