This is my (affordable) desert island spirit. Everyone who believes in a celebratory scotch once in a while should keep a bottle of this around. It's remarkably more rich and smooth than the 10 year.

This was recommended to me last night by the proprietor of Ben Nevis Whisky Bar, here in Glasgow. Probably the most complex, smoky, powerfully rich scotch I've ever tasted. And not super-expensive.

I don't golf or carry a flask. But this Jack Daniels flask is making me reconsider both decisions. It's a 7oz flask with a removable black leather cover (which you should definitely leave on).

My friend turned me on to Basil Hayden. It's better to have it on the rocks than neat. Can't explain it but I find myself asking for that now instead of my previous, Jameson. Good stuff.

sweet, almost bourbon-sweet, as i recall. delicious sherry flavors and amazing complexity. unfortunately, most of the memories around the rest of the night are rather blurry. pretty expensive, too.
