One of my good friends who just graduated college in May just landed her first full time job so as a gift I got her this Working Girl's Survival Kit. I really like all the different items that come in it. She was so happy when I gave it to her, which was originally for a joke but there are so many practical items that she can use on an everyday basis.

If only breaking through the glass ceiling anywhere in corporate American, let alone Wall Street, were this easy ! But this is a movie . . . and a fun one at that, with a monstrous boss you love to hate (Sigourney Weaver), a hunky businessman who is also a gentleman (Harrison Ford) and a woman who takes a licking and keeps on ticking (Melanie Griffith). If you have ever struggled to make it in any endeavor (and you can look past the horribly huge shoulder pads), you will appreciate this flick.

I could probably order the entire JCrew catalog right now and be in wardrobe nirvana for two years (or at least Fall 2008)... The Jackie cardigan is the perfect piece to create wardrobe versatility. It's lightweight cotten/nylon/spandex blend is great to throw on over sleeveless shirts and dresses in the summer, or layer over a blouse (and under a jacket) in the winter. Unfortunately, it rarely goes on sale...and seasonal colors at that, but I keep my eyes peeled.

Another bi-product of boarding school - too many Lacoste polos. we were required to wear "collars" or tnecks all year round, so i have an obscene amount of these and RL Polo oxfords. tho they have a bratty stigma, having a black and/or a white at your disposal is very handy - they can be worn under blazers, paired with almost anything, and are really comfy. i prefer the new 4 button stretch ones (i have big boobs, they fit better than the 2 button on me), but the two button is classic. tho the black/white/navy/basic colors rarely go on sale, the seasonal festive colors do go on sale, so maybe scoop up a bright blue or green to add some punch to the black/espresso/khaki suit basics...

I went to boarding school, so we had to be in "dress code" for about 4/5 of the year - when there was 6ft of snow on the ground, they weren't quite as tough about it - but i still had to find lots of good basics that could take a beating. banana republic makes good, conservative, a-line skirts every season - i buy khaki and black religiously once a year- and they are great for all occasions. and at 79 dollars (but they do go on sale - i've gotten some of the "spring" colors like sky blue and key lime pie as low as 24.99), the price point is on point.
