During 18 months of handcrafting, working only with vintage materials such as T-Shirts, knit sweaters and shirts, Brenneke manufactured highly elaborated, fascinating big and colorful quilts with the likeness of Eazy-E, The Notorious B.I.G., J-Dilla and Big L. “My graduate project should contain as much as possible of what´s important to me” explains Anne Brenneke. The reutilization, the re-interpretation and re-definition of used clothing has been already in the focus of her work during her studies. An article in the newspaper brought the idea of basing the project on the shawl, the most primal piece of clothing.
