Alanna: The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness, Book 1)

Alanna: The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness, Book 1)

This book remains one of my favorite after nearly ten years. Alanna dupes the castle into believing she is a boy, so she may train to become a female knight. She is smaller than the boys, frailer, and unaccustomed to the brutality reserved for newcomers. She is unreasonably stubborn however, and sweats out her shortcomings. Through hard work, she builds herself physically, spends hours out of every day perfecting her skill, and begins to surpass her peers in their training. Alanna wins the heart of her observers, and their fierce loyalty; including the dangerously charming George <3 *grins like a fool* This books sets the pace for a fun series that won hundreds of thousands of fans, and she makes appearances in Tamora's other beloved books, including the Protector of the Small quartet and Trickster's Choice. Discover, enjoy, repeat.
