Abby K-9: Everything Dog
I've never been any good at writing about myself.
If I had to sum myself up in a nutshell, I would say that I'm 29 years old, female, married, and from Virginia, USA. I currently live just a stone's throw from Washington, DC which could be one of my favorite places to go and explore (were it not for the horrible traffic and the lack of parking).
When I'm not working, I'm into visual culture - that is: drawing, painting, illustrating, photography, graphic design, and various other forms of visual culture.
But one of my main focuses in life is my German Shepherd, Abby.
Abby came to me as a young adult, nearly three years old. Like most rescue dogs, she came with some baggage - she was dog aggressive, she was reactive, she was a puller, and she was timid with corrections. She needed someone who understands German Shepherds and could work with her and build on the training she already had.
Abby is now my canine ambassador. Together, we visit schools and events and talk to people about the AKC Canine Good Citizenship program for pet dogs. At living history events, we teach kids and adults what military working dogs did in the different time periods they were used and what they do today. As a therapy dog team, we visit a local old folks' home and work with the residents and a special program for the memory impaired as a therapy dog team.

What is the next…
Purchase you’ll make?
I recently bought a Nikon D40, along with a bunch of accessories - a camera bag, spare battery, 4gb memory card, and so on. My next big purchase will be a nice, quality telefocus lens to go with it - maybe a Tamron lens.
Trend in design?
Wall stickers. Seriously! They've been around for some time but are finally starting to really catch on. I even saw them offered at Target recently, so that's a good sign. I think they'll do well with people who can't or aren't allowed to paint in their homes.
Car you’d like to own?
I'm still paying on our SUV, but once that is paid off, I'm thinking of getting a smaller vehicle and setting it up to transport the dogger safely and securely regardless of weather. I kind of have my eye on an Impala or a Crown Victoria, as I can get the K9 inserts for the back from working dog suppliers.
Fad that will fade?
Hopefully, all the 1980s-Fashion throw-backs are going to go out of fashion again soon. Gold hot pants and neon colors were awful in the 80s and they're still awful now - some trends just need to stay dead.
Hollywood blockbuster going to be about?
That's a good question. I think all the good story-lines in history have already been done, so now a lot of movies are remakes of older films, or they are based on different stories but put in a new setting. There seems to be very little original stuff out there anymore.
Book you’ll read?
I'm currently re-reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I read it right when it came out just so that nobody would spoil it for me (and because I wanted to know how things end), but re-reading it is giving me a chance to catch all the details. After that ... I'm not sure what I'll read next.
Guilty-pleasure food in which you’ll indulge?
Chocolate, of course. And I've recently been on a Fanta Orange kick for some reason.
