Better Bacon - Green Banana Tee

Updated May 14, 2008

2 people recommended this item

Description

We're all "out of shape bananas" sometimes. Even if we're not like this T-shirt's awesome artist, who may have gotten to design this graphic because he's developmentally disabled like those for whom the Better Bacon nonprofit works to support, but who definitely has an above average funny bone!

BlackBerry Bold

Updated May 13, 2008

5 people recommended this item

Description

For tactile-key lovers, an iPhone is no substitute... for razzle dazzle lovers, a Blackberry is no substitute. Though still not convinced we can all get along, the BlackBerry Bold is a decent Switzerland.

(Resisting temptation to use a "The Bold and the Beautiful" one liner... mostly because I'm not sold yet rather than any fundamental objection to soap opera references, which are glorious.) (via Notcot)

SIGG ICE BLUE TREND 1.0L(33 OZ)

Updated May 12, 2008

3 people recommended this item

Description

The Blue Steel of thermoses, which is to say, sporting of a markedly hotter look than all others combined.

An excellent long-weekend companion... Would travel with it if the dumb airlines did not mistake we self hydrationists for terrorists. Settle for using it on car trips, bike trips and beach trips. Probably would keep a few martinis chillaxed. And inspire partakers to flash a few Blue Steels of their own.

St Germain Elderflower Liqueur

Updated May 12, 2008

7 people recommended this item

Description

St. Germain, c'est chouette. Made of Elderflowers from les Alpes, it adds perfumed complexity to martinis, especially those with fresh juice, and to tequila and rum cocktails. And to breakfast, cheris. After all, a liquor named for the most bohemian arrondissement should be enjoyed in nothing but a bohemian manner.

Twitch (Raccoon) Plush Toy

Updated May 8, 2008

2 people recommended this item

Description

Play should be educational. Some games teach us about the environment or spelling or maths. Others, like "Twitch" teach us about death, driving and biology. An unstuffed stuffed animal. Genius. (via Boing Boing)

alterdesigns agate and geod jewelry

Updated May 7, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

I'm having a bit of a neohippie moment. Perhaps it's an only-quasi-successful Janis Joplin possession. Perhaps it's spring's first hint of barefoot in the air in Venice. But I can't get enough flower-child revivals paired with now items. To scratch the boho itch, I ordered a lovely, luxey gold-dipped geod necklace from Etsy's AlterDesigns... itself a neohippie moment: ordering handmade jewelry from a social shopping Web site. Meta, non?

Tapatio Salsa Picante Hot Sauce

Updated May 5, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

XXL Tapatio... extra awesome. I've always wanted to steal a grande bottle of Tapatio from a taco truck. And, of course, I never ever would; not only do I not steal (bad juju) , but I couldn't live with the thought of having deprived others of its tangy goodness... and now that LA taco trucks are getting the heat, they need all the help they can get (La Oaxacatena, we're rooting for you to keep your Rose/Lincoln corner).

Which reminds: last time we were there, we heard a very confused (stoned) kid try to order a taco burrito. Taco burrito? Rich.

SE Lager Single-Speed bike

Updated May 5, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

I was thirsty, thirsty for a new ride... Something light, smooth, simple and easy on the eyes. My thirst and I sidled up to Venice's Bike Attack bike bar, ordered a single speed, they poured 49 inches of lovely SE Lager and that beaut quenched it. She quenched it good.

Perfect geometry, light for a cromo (steel) frame, and who doesn't love riding bullhorns (not this girl!). SE Lagers can be fixed or freewheel. You're going to want to rip off the goofy stickz and bar tape... But then she's as sweet as espresso on wheels. And as fast.

Animal Object

Updated May 1, 2008

Description

Pink elephants on parade! Dumbo, my first movie theater experience, as I recall it was both a revelation and utterly terrifying. Sinister pink elephants! On parade! This 5-inch plastic MOMA store exclusive is decidedly less haunting. In part because there is no Coke-and-popcorn-and-Red Vines drunkenness.

No, the sane solution for a cluttered desk is not buying a new desk. However, sanity died a quick and painless death when first I saw George Nelson's swag leg desk: insouciant cubbies, shapely legs, and check out the rack on top of that thing.

Women's Thunderbird Tan Suede Boat Sole Moccasin

Updated Apr 29, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

Moccasins. Minnetonka Moccasins, no less. Unexpectedly but wholly obsessed out of the blue with this moccasin. An anti-gladiator reflex? Perhaps. But a Great Lakes-chic look by which I'm willing to stand. To round out the look, a copy of Jim Harrison's luminous Returning to Earth and Grand Valley State University New Music Ensemble's Stephen Reich's Music for 18 Musicians as a soundtrack. Or some Prince.

Updated Jul 16, 2007
I may not be Ben Franklin and his kite, but hopefully my small discovery will get you equally lit. Pour tequila into ice-filled shaker. Stop only when you're certain there's too much. Splash it with cointreau. Squeeze in key limes until you're bored. Shake it like a polaroid. Run a lime slice around part of the rim of your martini glass. Dip it in Kosher salt. Dip it again in aleppo pepper. Pour shaker contents into glass. Sip at your leisure... it won't get weak from melted ice!
