Description
Love the portability of this container. Also, it's better to grow above ground if you don't know what's lurking in your soil (well, that's how it goes for L.A./city gardeners, anyway).
Good for cold climate gardeners who need to bring plants inside on frosty nights, too. (via Daily Candy)

Smells like chocolate. Saves water by keeping your garden beds moist longer. Totally eco. Great color. Again, in case you missed it, SMELLS LIKE CHOCOLATE.

I don't actually have aphids but I've always wanted to release a batch of ladybugs in the garden just because. It would be an awesome Eric Carsle happening... a yard full of grouchy ladybugs.

The agony and ecstasy of growing the perfect tomato. Mine were gorgeous last year... and had the flavor of a glass of water.

I love this concept: gorgeous pots made from corn husks (or something similarly sustainable) that, after you plant them, biodegrade in your garden.
Gardening is about leaving bits of earth better than you found them. These match that ethos.

Its bite is deadly! It's the best all-in-one tool for the garden... pull on your gloves and let loose on your patch of dirt with this puppy and there's no telling what will ensue: a little loosening of the soil or total mayhem. (via gaylatrail)

Kitchen Garden: What to Grow and How to Grow It

Description
Here's what I love about Kitchen Garden: the charts. Turn to any vegetable and learn when to plant each variety and when to harvest it. Yes, this information is all available in the HEAVY Western Garden's book, but it's so clearly presented in Kitchen Garden that I find myself more inspired when using it than when getting carpal tunnel flipping through WG.
Maybe it's a classic case of eliminating overchoice: select information clearly presented sometimes works better than a compendium of everything under the sun.

The gardeners' bible: Exhaustive, inspiring, educationational. I never tackle planting without consulting it. And it's heavy enough that it gets my biceps all pumped up and ready for heavy digging.

Description
A gardening project for every week of the year from an L.A. Times plant-meister. Great for Angelenos and those in Mediterranean climes.
I'm dying to grow some rockin' brussel sprouts and crociferous veggies this winter thanks to the schedule/suggestion in "52 Weeks."
