The ultimate gift for your (spoiled) budding climber grom, a digital climbing wall of Swedish origin! Granted, these are designed mostly for rec. centers and Chuck E. Cheese-esque establishments, but, hey, life takes Visa, right? Specialized's Globe City bike is like a love letter commuters can deliver to the environment everyday with just a little pedaling. Specialized made the bike with features like a covered chain to help jobby people not get filthy on the way to the office. And it's such a fab ride that, get this, their head honcho will ride the darn thing all the way from their HQ in the Bay Area to the bike industry trade show in Las Vegas to prove the point that it's a radical Mama Earth-loving transpo option. Again, Bay Area to Las Vegas! Now that's some kind of passionate S.W.A.K.

So dorky it's cool. It's wool... which is eco and comfortable. If I were a better friend, I would buy this for my pal Sean who has the gumption to mountain bike regularly in Los Angeles (meaning, he drives as much as he rides). You may think surf trunks are so ubiquitous that they have always been in existence, but Birdwells started the rage - and believe you me, it was a rage - in 1961. These nylon boardies were so coveted that guys would buy armloads while on vacay in so cal and bring them back to their inland pals. Remember, there was no online shopping back in the day.

I think these are supersexy if worn with the right attitude. But here's an important style note: they're short. Not short-short short, but way above the knee.

Why I love this Speedo:
1-Double draw strings keep the bottoms AND top in place
2-Bottoms are a little boyish, which is so cute. Sometimes training bikinis can be either really high-waisted or, worse, high-legged a la Olivia Newton John.
3-Lap swimmers may have to suffer through a lifetime of tanlines over the shoulders, but at least torsos don't have to be chlorine-white all summer.

Surfer Magazine's Guide to Southern California Surf Spots

Description

I don't actually have time to surf anymore... and when I do have time I sorta alreay know where I want to go based on what's happening in the water and how many people I feel like punching in the face (because that's how we roll in L.A.) but I bought this book because it made me laugh when I was flipping through it in the bookstore: They called out a certain Ho'wood producer as being a kook and made other apt-and-vaguely-cruel cracks.

Worth getting if you know your spots and if you don't... and a decent option if you're looking to upgrade from Bank Wright's guide (even thought he wins in the "author whose name most qualifies him to write a surfing guide" category).
