Did you know that I actually own this book. Yep, I own a Beavis and Butthead book. My best friend got it for me for my birthday about a zillion years ago. She also got me a tee shirt with my face on the back that says "Happy 18th Birthday Ugly" -- I still have that shirt today. May seem mean but I was no looker back then.

The Black Dress

The Black Dress by Valerie Steele is great for those who want to look at pretty dresses and read quick and interesting quotes – no heavy reading required for this book.

This book starts off with an essay written by Valerie Steele, who is the Director of Chief Curator of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (which is fabulous if you haven’t been). The book then continues with glossy photos of famously fashionable black dresses in history accompanied by fun quotes like this one:

“For her fifth wedding, the bride wore black and carried a scotch and soda” – Phyllis Battelle on Heiress Barbara Hutton.

For those who want a bit more meat, the end of the book has more detailed blurbs about each photographed dress and its place in history.

The book was nice; it was like flipping through a special edition magazine about black dresses. I would have loved to see more pictures as the book is pretty short but for small price tag I certainly got my moneys worth. The book is listed at $19.95 but is selling for a little over $13 at Amazon.com

The Handbag: An Illustrated History

Description

Don't judge a book by it's cover because this cover is fug. The colors are all wrong and the girl is in desperate need for a manicure. But once you get past the cover the book is really good -- informative, fashionable, and has a ton of history which is written in a not-so-boring text booky way. It's a good thing, trust.

The Playboy Book: Fifty Years

I would say that 100% of guys wish they were Hugh Hefner and about 50% of girls secretly wish they could be in a issue of Playboy. With those percentages I am sure you know at least one Playboy fan who would enjoy scoring this book underneath the Christmas tree. Because let's be honest that is the only "scoring" they will be doing with Playboy.

This beautiful book was written by a Nordstrom employee (how cool is that). The book is about the friendship between a little girl named Sophie, an ambitious cow, a wise owl and a luminescent moon and how they joined together to save Christmas.

To help promote lifelong reading, Nordstrom has made a $10,000 donation to Friends of Libraries USA in support of its Books for Babies program.

This would make an excellent gift and for a good price! This book is only $16.95.

I can't believe I haven't recommended this yet! I kind of turned my nose up at this book before I read it (that was mean of me) but after reading it I take it all back. This book is great for wardrobe building. It takes you through all of the staples you should have in your closet and even tells you the history behind them. This is one book that should be on every fashionistas nightstand.

As part of my mission for "me" time, I am reading every night before bed (just like when I was a kid). The book on my nightstand these days is Vintage Fashion. I really like it, it kind of reminds me of my days back in fashion school. It has a text book feel without being horribly boring. This books takes you back to the roots of fashion and highlights those forgotten designers that really paved the way to the great fashions that we see today.
