The Eat-Clean Diet: Fast Fat-Loss that lasts Forever!: Tosca Reno: Books

Updated May 4, 2008

Description

Every time I see this book at the bookstore I pick it up and flip through it but I always put it back. Today I flipped through and decided to buy it. So glad I did.

My trainer is always telling me that the way to the perfect body is to eat clean. He is so right. This book is an easy read and has smart sound advice. Most of it I already knew, however I did find the chapter on superfoods and supplements very useful. I picked up a bunch of supplements today at Whole Foods -- I am going to recommend those next.

Not into TV? Try reading the book. Personally I prefer sitting in front of the TV so I can multi-task like a pro ... being online, watching, tv, drinking coffee, all while talking on my blackberry.

How cute are these? I spotted them in Elle Magazine and I just had to recommend them.

Darkside Zodiac in Love

Updated Jan 24, 2008

Description

I am a bit of a Zodiac freak -- I believe everything my horoscope says because the stars know, dammit they know. I am kind of afraid to see what the "Darkside" Zodiac will say about me because as far as I know the only side a Scorpio has is a dark side.

I am halfway through this book and I freaking love it. Its so hard for me to put it down every night to go to sleep. This stuff is better than a movie! A must read if you are into trashy novels.

I will have to give a more in depth recommendation once I finish it.

Andy Warhol Fashion (PB)

Updated Dec 5, 2007

Description

I just learned something new today ... (excerpt from Moma Store)

Before he found fame as the father of Pop Art, Andy Warhol was an accomplished advertising illustrator and commercial artist for fashion tastemakers such as Barney's, Neiman Marcus, Glamour, Mademoiselle, and Harper's Bazaar.

I tell ya, that makes me love Andy even more. It also makes me want this book.

The Black Dress

Updated Dec 2, 2007

1st to recommend

Description

The Black Dress by Valerie Steele is great for those who want to look at pretty dresses and read quick and interesting quotes – no heavy reading required for this book.

This book starts off with an essay written by Valerie Steele, who is the Director of Chief Curator of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (which is fabulous if you haven’t been). The book then continues with glossy photos of famously fashionable black dresses in history accompanied by fun quotes like this one:

“For her fifth wedding, the bride wore black and carried a scotch and soda” – Phyllis Battelle on Heiress Barbara Hutton.

For those who want a bit more meat, the end of the book has more detailed blurbs about each photographed dress and its place in history.

The book was nice; it was like flipping through a special edition magazine about black dresses. I would have loved to see more pictures as the book is pretty short but for small price tag I certainly got my moneys worth. The book is listed at $19.95 but is selling for a little over $13 at Amazon.com

The Handbag: An Illustrated History

Updated Dec 1, 2007

2 people recommended this item

Description

Don't judge a book by it's cover because this cover is fug. The colors are all wrong and the girl is in desperate need for a manicure. But once you get past the cover the book is really good -- informative, fashionable, and has a ton of history which is written in a not-so-boring text booky way. It's a good thing, trust.

The Playboy Book: Fifty Years

Description

I would say that 100% of guys wish they were Hugh Hefner and about 50% of girls secretly wish they could be in a issue of Playboy. With those percentages I am sure you know at least one Playboy fan who would enjoy scoring this book underneath the Christmas tree. Because let's be honest that is the only "scoring" they will be doing with Playboy.

Stylist The Interpreters of Fashion

Updated Oct 31, 2007

Description

I ordered this book as a little "Happy Birthday to me!" and I can't wait until it shows up in the mail. This book is all about stylists, the folks who determine what is hot and what is not and dress up the stars to make them all pretty. Sounds a bit like myself ... except for the dressing up stars part.

I can't believe I haven't recommended this yet! I kind of turned my nose up at this book before I read it (that was mean of me) but after reading it I take it all back. This book is great for wardrobe building. It takes you through all of the staples you should have in your closet and even tells you the history behind them. This is one book that should be on every fashionistas nightstand.

Vintage Fashion: Collecting and Wearing Designer Classics, 1900-1990

Updated Oct 24, 2007

Description

As part of my mission for "me" time, I am reading every night before bed (just like when I was a kid). The book on my nightstand these days is Vintage Fashion. I really like it, it kind of reminds me of my days back in fashion school. It has a text book feel without being horribly boring. This books takes you back to the roots of fashion and highlights those forgotten designers that really paved the way to the great fashions that we see today.

Style A to Zoe

Updated Sep 28, 2007

1st to recommend

Description

Can a 70lb woman who has a complexion which resembles that of a raisin dole out fashion advice? Probably not unless of course her name is Rachel Zoe, then she can serve as much advice as she wants.

Zoe’s boho-chic style and shrinking clients (Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan) catapulted her into the public eye and has turned her into a fashion authority. Rachel Zoe has decided to share her expertise with the world by writing her first book which is hitting shelves October 3rd.

Zoe’s book Style A to Zoe spills insider tips on how to live a fashionable life. The book focuses on must-have accessories, wardrobe staples, when to splurge and when to save, how to decorate, entertain, and travel in style. She even taps into her fashionable friends for this book including: Michael Kors, Donatella Versace, and Diane von Furstenberg.

As much as Rachel Zoe makes me sick, I love her at the same time. I plan on picking up the book once it hits shelves. Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty, & Everything Glamour $24.99

Bridezilla: True Tales from Etiquette Hell

Updated Sep 20, 2007

1st to recommend

Description

I haven't read this book but I sure do like the purdy cover art.

From Amazon:

Bridezilla: True Tales From Etiquette Hell! is truly a one-of-a-kind book. While books have been written about disaster weddings, those focused on events rather than on behaviors. And while other etiquette books have been written, there are none that approach the subject matter with real stories, humor and common sense the way Bridezilla does.

It is the book’s intent to educate while providing comic relief to those who have suffered or are suffering at the hands of a Bridezilla. It is intended to remain as a reference book in one’s personal library, as the Antitoxin sections at the end of each chapter give specific Dos and Don’ts, which are often hard to find in traditionally styled etiquette manuals. And finally, it is intended to save civilization from the horrible beast that often emerges when an otherwise perfectly normal woman gets a ring and a date.
