Description
I bought my Venus Flytrap plant at the Wild Animal Park in San Diego and I am still amazed at this plant. Without doubt, the Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) is one of the most famous carnivorous plants, used by college professor worldwide as an example of how absolutely amazing are these carnivorous plants. When a small animal walks over the leaves of this plant, which have been transformed in their evolutionary history into small traps, the leaves close rapidly, trapping their victim and resulting in a slow death. Evidence of this act, in the form of the crumpled body of the animal, is only witnessed after the plant has extracted the nutrients from its victim and the leaves have opened once again, ready for the next meal. They are somewhat fragile but are well worth having.
