Sahalie Buff Bandanas

Description

I love these. They're not really bandanas but rather multi-purpose headbands, such as hair tie, neck warmer, etc. They can also be used as face masks for motorcycle riding or burning man. These Sahalie exclusive prints are great.

Description

This UK's premier electric car produces virtually no pollution emission, 700 horsepower, and 4 second 0-60mph time (Tesla still beats this with 3.7 seconds), and a nano-safe battery that lasts a 250-mile range, a 10- minute recharge time, and will last 12 to 20 years. Impressive. (via Gizmag)

Fiber Optic Illuminated Tablecloth

Updated Feb 26, 2008

3 people recommended this item

Description

Damn it. I've got to stop looking at lighting. Every time I think I've disciplined myself from spending temptation, I run across another great light I want.

This tablecloth is made of fiber optic lights interwoven into a polyester/polymethacrylate fabric, which is waterproof and washable (can you believe?). I wonder how it would look on suspended, like a window shade... Uses an 11' power cord, which can be removed for washing.

I so want this! I'd like my Burning Man tent to be made of this fiber optic fabric. How hot would that be???

Modular Light Screen

Updated Feb 26, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

Oh, too many great lighting options, too little money. These light panels can be connected, up to five panels at a time. It'll cost you $7,000 though, which is not bad considering the amount of territory this covers. I would love to have a single panel for a space I created during the remodel, but it's 9" thick, which does not work with the fixture I have in mind. I need a 4" thick light wall (which I'm creating myself with fabric panels and led string lights... when I get to it, that is.).

I'm sure I'll find a reason to get this one day.

From Switzerland.

Cee Light

Updated Feb 26, 2008

3 people recommended this item

Description

Great. Another thing to spend the last of my savings on. The great uses I can make of this for my remodel! Pontential ideas range from night light panels to lit glass counter tops. Too bad it's not solar operated. That would make it a must have for me. Without seeing how the inverter electrical unit works, it's hard for me to commit. I'm not a fan of wiring running all over my walls or floors. Unless it's on purpose, of course.

This flat panel light uses LEC technology to create a paper thin lighting device that is flexible and extremely light weight. . Sized as large as 3' x 6', a tad smaller than my front door ($1,650) (ouch). Smallest is 8.5" x 14" for $25. They need to create a connector cable, so one can create a grid without 12 outlets needed. Don't you think?

The World's Largest Music Collection on sale for $3 Mil

Description

The bidding on Ebay is still at zero, which is unfortunate for Paul Mawhinney, owner of the 3 million vinyls and 300,000 CDs. Maybe it's still too early. Forced by the wife to sell, Mawhinney's impressive 50-year collection includes rare and out-of-print titles, all varieties of American music from classical to hip-hop. (via wired)

Reclaimed Lumber Benches

Updated Feb 5, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

I've been wanting a bench like this for as long as I can remember. I've always loved this style, but I've never had a place big enough. Funny how it turns out they're the perfect design style for creating sustainable furniture.

In order to achieve the best sustainable outcome for these gorgeous benches, BWC created each bench 20ft in length, keeping the material mostly in its found state (long huge planks of reclaimed wood).

I always feel inspired when I witness a natural cycle of 'need' becoming 'desire.'

Description

This interactive table has LED twinkling stars that are constant, but it can sensor motion that is above it and responds by changing to constant ambient light. Movement will cause a rippling light effect from the 480 super-bright white LEDs below the surface. Really cool concept made into a real product.

In addition, it is constructed of 100% sustainable material and water-based finish. In full active mode, it uses only 30 watts of power.

Mold & Germ Destroying Air Purifier

Updated Jan 25, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

Works up to 550 sq. ft. and the best looking one I've seen in the market to date. I don't know why, but air purifiers and dehumidifiers are so uuurgly! I crinched each time I had to buy one.

This unit is not just nice looking, but its list of "why buy me" qualities is quite impressive . It uses heat to kill airborne mold, bacteria, viruses, dust mites, and pollens. The surprising part is the heating does not heat the environment (interesting how they do that) AND it uses less energy than a 60 watt light bulb. That's REALLY impressive.

Of course I'm getting one. I never knew how useful air filters can be, until I got one. Now I have four and ready for more!

Brilliant use of Tyvek (the material they use for those US Postal envelopes). It's light like paper but strong like plastic. Because... it is basically plastic. IT's made of high-density polyethelene. Great as a reusable bag because it can fold small and store easily.

beauty in utilitarian designs
Updated Aug 13, 2007
By definition, utilitarian means having regard to utility or usefulness rather than beauty or ornamentation. I think this is where the future of design will change - I have seen a great amount of utilitarian designs that are beautiful, which is encouraging. Today, in order for a product to qualify as great design, it needs to have both form + function.
