re-purposed salad bowl succulent gardens
First to recommend
Description
These are the infamous wooden salad bowls of the 90's that are now the infamous garage sale bowls of the 2009's. You know what I've noticed? They don't sell at the garage sales and then they get dumped.
Not these babies though. Given a fresh coat of water-resistant paint, they become beautiful vessels for mini container gardens. These hold drought-resistant succulents that are very easy-to-care for and easy on the water needs too, which is also very good.

These are not new... As a matter of fact, some are the oldies we so easily throw away now... Some of us, anyway.
These were given a bit of style-improvement in hopes they will be better-appreciated so they stay out of the garbage and out of landfills. Originally basic and boring, these were refabbed to orange-red, like the fire they will carry for years to come.

Lately, I've been entertaining the idea of making my own curtains, pillows, etc. AND reupholstering trashed furniture with eco-friendly fabric.
I was delighted to find these eco-friendly options. The designs are limited, but I have a feeling they will grow and will add more to their collection. (via Inhabitat)

Okay... So I love the idea of growing herbs in my kitchen, but it's kinda silly. You get enough for one meal at a time. So... Somebody needs to help me with my naive mind... Are people using these to grow pot, you think?
Why are they so popular?
Honestly, I want one to grow herbs for cooking.... But I've always been told I do things differently than others. What does that mean when it comes to this product? hmmmm.

Keetsa eco-friendly mattress
First to recommend
Description
A friend of mine just recommended this mattress. I was blown away I didn't know about the sooner, considering the 'kewl' green factor with its manufacturing process and use of materials. I can't say it is great. I haven't used it. But I can say that they're trying to be great. Conscientious use of materials at conscientious price points... That is exactly what is needed in order to change how we use and waste.
The next mattress product I buy, you can bet it will be from Keetsa. (Okay, unless it becomes a poor experience, which I doubt.)
